Q: 5-htp Vs. Paxil

I have been researching 5-htp recently. I am wondering if anyone has switched from paxil to 5-htp with any success or has tried it and found it didn't work.

I have anxiety and depression and I have been taking paxil for about 3 months. I am starting to see some of the effects that can occur-constant headaches, insomnia, dizziness, and weight gain. I was on paxil a few years ago and it seemed to stop working after a while. I am only on a dose of 20 mg. Lower than this didn't do anything. I have tried other prescriptions with limited help.

Please let me know if you have any advice.

Thanks
heidi

Yes, paxil has some wicked side effects. Weight gain is huge. It's almost guarenteed to make you blow up like a balloon in time. It's also common to get light headed and a little spacey. I personally did not like paxil..And would never suggest it unless you needed to gain weight or had a lot of patience. I would ask about switching to something else. I liked lexapro - i'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but i'd look into it.
