Risk of Switching Brands?
Posted: 01-10-05 18:20pm

Hello there,

i was on allesse for one month and then switched to yasmin (got my period a week before I should have). On my 7th day of taking yasmin, my boyfriend and I had a condom breaking incident. Should I look into emergency contraception #1 because I am relatively new to birth control and #2 because I recently swithed brands?

Thanks!!!!

Hi! :)
it is recommended you use protection for the first month on the pill, and switching brands doesn't affect its effectiveness! So assuming you started the yasmin right after the placebo pills of your alesse you will be ok! Is the reason you switched because of your period? Sorry i'm a bit confused!

Thanks for responding!

I actually switched from alesse because I felt moody and hungry all the time. After I got my period early I was concerned that the hormones from the alesse weren't stopping me from ovulating but that is not the reason I switched to yasmin.

I'm relieved to hear that as long as i've been careful about taking the pill everyday for a month, switching the brand shouldn't change anything. I couldn't find any information about that on the internet so your input is much appreciated!
