Reaction to Sutures? What to Do?
Posted: 01-10-05 10:55am

I am 9 weeks post op from a partial hysterectomy. I was doing fine up til 6 weeks then landed back in hospital in severe pain. They ruled out hernia & chalked it up to severe inflamation from the type of sutures that were used on the inside. Meanwhile 3 weeks later i'm still in pain & barely able to leave home. If this is an allergic or rejection type problem with the sutures, what options do I have to alleviate the pain/inflamation until the sutures absorb (the Dr. Said these sutures can take up to 172 days to dissolve)??

Did they put you on antibiotics, inflammation reducers, and pain medication? If not, ask for them. Take aleve for the swelling that is causing the pain. Use a heating pad. Heat causes blood to rise towards the wound producing quicker healing time. If you hurt so bad that it is affecting your daily life, you need to talk to the doctor until he does something that works for you. You may need some oxycodone or vicodin until the sutures heal. It will get better, I promise.
