Q: Cataract Surgery

My doctor has recommended cataract surgery for me which I agree, but i'm not sure about one point. I need both eyes done, and my doctor says he always puts on lens for distance in one eye, and for closer work in the other eye. That doesn't sound great to me overall - i've known people who've tried this setup with contacts and didn't like it.

Anyone with experience in this and have a recommendation?

I have had cataract surgery on both eyes.

In each case a distance iol was inserted, which is the most common practice. Your doctor would be aware that some post cataract surgery patients experience problems with near vision, hence his/her suggestion of a combination of lenses.

I personally do not believe it is a good solution and would suggest staying with two distances iol's.

If you experience near vision problems with reading then you would better of with a refractive solution such as reading glasses than the mismatch of iol's.

Hey mike 101, or anyone, I have a question about the focal points of iols. I'm going to have cataract surgery in a few months. I have no vision at all in the other eye, the one not having the surgery, so the monovision thing where they put a close-focusing iol in one eye and a distance-vision lens in the other is not an option for me.

I would like opinions on the type of iol, near vs. Far distance focusing, I should have implanted. I am also not considering that array multi-focal lens because it's best for people who have it implanted in both eyes and because it is said to increase glare at night, and glare at night is the thing that currently bothers me most about my cataract.
I'm thinking i'd like to have the implant set to focus at near distance, because that's what i'm used to now (i wear glasses for distance and computer work but not for reading). I'd love to hear from anyone who has had an iol implanted, i'm interested in whether you had the focal point set at near, middle-distance, or far vision, and how it works for you.

headaches after cataract surgery on side of surgery
I am a 49 year old white male who had to have cataract lens replacement surgery on Wednesday ,Jan 14th on my left eye. The surgery went well with no complications. I had my patch removed the next day and began taking two eye drops four times per day . Vigamox for 1 week and Omnipred for two weeks. On Sunday evening ,four days after the surgery, I began experiencing severe headaches on the left side of my head and very tender on top. I went back to the doctor who gave me more drops to try , this has not helped either. I go back tomorrow again . I have tried heat, cold, tylenol , and exedrin for pain. Nothing works. My wife thinks I need to get some sort of a scan done to help determine what is causing the pain. I have never had migranes, and am not nautious or sensitive to sound now. I hope I described my symptoms fully. I would love to hear from someone offering any suggestions for me to try or share with my own doctor. I cannot function at work with these massive headaches
