Hi everyone. I started ortho tri-cyclen to ease really awful cramps, minor acne and a heavyish flow. The first month and a bit was wonderful. The cramps virtually disappeared and my face cleared up. However, all of a sudden I would start getting these crazy mood swings where I would become very irritable and cry a lot. I would also get really sweaty, my heart would race and i'd feel really nauseous. This would happen a few days before or during my period while on the pill. The pills didn't help the flow at all, it was still pretty heavy. I stuck it out for three months, but it was too awful to continue. Is this probably a reaction to ortho tri-cyclen? I want to try a different pill, but i'm not sure which one and i'm sort of afraid to. I was under the impression that ortho tri-cyclen was a lowdose... I can't imagine what the highdose would do to me. Thanks everyone.

Re: Bad Experience?
Hi!

I believe there are lower doses of hormones in bcps.. Like alesse. However, sometimes a higher dose will actually minimize your mood swings but it is different for every person. So maybe you should try another brand and see how it works, but if you get the same symptoms definitely go back to your doc!

I had to try different bc pills up until I decided to get the depo shot. So I would say that you should try a different brand until you find the right one for you.

I think it is just depends on the person. Like me, my periods was where I would spot for two weeks. I was also moody. My heart would feel like it was speeding up at times. Gained alot of weight. I felt like I was nerves all the time to. And yes all these side effects that I had is what made me stop taking the shot besides that me and my hubsand is wanting to have a baby. Now you decide to take the shot you may not have no side effects. Like my sister. She has not had any problems with it and she has been taking it for 3 years. So I guess it is just different for everybody and different side effects to.

Wow it was the opposite for me.. I took alesse and was crazily depressed. When I went on tricyclen I got depressed, but not to the same degree. I switched anyway and went on triquilar and this has definitely been the worst, so i'm off the pill altogether. Now i'm just waiting to get over my depression

I wasn't what you say depressed when I was taking the pills. I just stay sicked on the time. And I knew staying sick all the time wasn't good for a person. Neither is staying depressed all the time.

Do not go on depo if u can avoid it. I have been on depo for almost 2 yrs and I have gained weight, had the bad mood swings like you have had on the pill, and hot flashes and I am only 23. My dr and I finally decided that I needed to go off the shots and switch to birth control. They have also found now that it can lead to early menopause in some women and that it causes irreversable bone loss. They tell you that if you are going to risk taking the shot that you take lots of calicium so that you can avoid the bone loss.
