Sharp Pains
I'm glad to hear that you are not worrying about dying; however, you should still seek the medical advice from a doctor. The changes with your eyes concern me. My pain is almost gone. I've found that it occurs most often when I am under stress. I never experienced vision or dizziness problems. Your pain may also be stressed induced; however, I would still suggest you see a doctor to rule out anything else that may be going on.

Also...
These are typical symptoms of migraines...
A few symptoms of migraines are:
Pounding, throbbing, on one or both sides of the head.
Dizziness.
Stomachaches.
Nausea and/or vomiting.
Seeing spots or halos.
Sensitivity to light, noise, and/or smells.

The cause for all of these things is the constricting and unconstricting of the blood vessels that are on the outside of the skull.(scalp)
As far as the visuals, when there is not enough blood and oxygen getting to the blood vessels in your eye(because vessels are constricted), you get what are called halos. The halos are visual disturbances.(spots, blurs, blind spots, zigzags, and things of the sort)

While the head pains I am experiencing are not quite as intense as a migraine, any headache is caused by the same constrictions/unconstrictions, I could also be densitized to headaches. The reason being that I suffer from allergy and weather induced headaces.
Knowing this, I am not so worried anymore. But if any of you have any advise still, I would be more than greatful to hear it.
Thanks mzlizzi, and koa as well!
Smile

Same Kind of Pain
Hi, i'm nick and i'm 16 years old. Recently i've been experiencing these short bursts of mild pain in the left side of my head. I hurt my back a few days ago, although it is better i still can't bend it all the way.. does this have something to do with the pain? Also i have been under stress since me and my mother are moving. Anyway, the pain seems to come at night more than anything, i plan on going to our doctor but i was just wondering if this could be the same kind of "ice pick" headache. Let's hope.

Hey E.

As a child, I used to have such headaches that I remember tying belts around my head to relieve the pressure.

Now, my headaches, come in form of "hang overs" Coffee, chocolate, alcohol; thank God,' not drugsl Although, I did like smoking pot in H.S. BUT...that's brain deadining!

Think about yourself! Eat healthy, drink juices and water and exercise!

If that fails.....Than go to A Doctor.

YOU CAN DO IT!

Going to the Doctor is the best thing to do if your not sure about where the problem stems from.

Getting an M.R.I. or Cat Scan is a great idea either way to ease your mind and take away your worries.

I've never had either procedure done so I'm not sure about the details.

Take Care!

Sharp Pains
Hey, there. I am 13 years old and experiencing the sharp pains too. My mother is bringing me to the doctor tomorrow to find out what's wrong with my head. I have the random sharp pains in my right side of my head where there is a bump (which I don't know why is there) but I don't know if there is anything to do it.

Do you think it's something bad? It's because I get really paranoid and I couldn't sleep well last night as I kept thinking that I was experiencing cancer. I hope the doctor provides me good news. Wish me luck! But... is it the same thing?

Same But Different
Hello all. I'm reading a lot of these posts and see that most of you speak of pain in the left rear side of your head. Well, mine is at the top right side of my head. It really worries me. I distinctly remember my first time feeling them because it was just minutes after I first came under fire in Iraq some three years ago. The pain is so intense that there is no controlling it. As a natural reaction, I immediately stop what I'm doing and grab that area of my head. As far as I know nothing triggers it. I can just be walking along, happy, sad, stressed, unstressed, and BAM, it just happens. It lasts a couple of seconds and then disappears. Sometimes I won't have another one for a couple of months, and sometimes I could have another one as early as a few hours or days. It's really puzzling. I've been to countless military doctors who claim that they have no earthly idea what it may be or what kind of condition I'm speaking of. I fear that it's an aneurysm. I fear that it's a tumor. The pain is so intense, and I'm only 28 years old. It's really discouraging to have doctors say that something so painful and potentially serious is nothing. The day I fear is the day the pain lasts for an hour instead of a couple of seconds and kills me. I feel as if it's a ticking time bomb inside of my head that nobody, at least not in the military arena, can help me with. Some of your posts have been educational. I also saw something on ER about this same condition. In that episode, it turned out that these pains were being triggered by pain elsewhere in the body. For instance, the patient had a herniated disc in his back, and when his pain was at its worst he would get sharp stabbing pains in his head that lasted for seconds. Who knows what it is. But something I do know is that it's totally alarming to know that the people who hold the positions to help and who have been educated for several years about the human anatomy have no clue what this is.

I know this is an OLD topic but...
I know this is somewhat old but I am looking for: diana12, I have the very very same symptoms as her/him and wanted to know if she/he found anything out about it.

I have had a CT, nothing ... been to 3 different docs and all say idopathic ice pick headaches but the last one told me if it has a big name they just really dont know whats wrong (which was not giving me a warm cozy feeling.)

I googled my head pains and found this site along with links to brain anyurisims (however you spell that).

diana12 are you still around?

Non-stop Pain for 3 Days
Soldier Boy,

I too am having sharp pains in my right temple. I experienced these pains several weeks ago, but only had them a few times. Now, for the past 3 days, I have had them non-stop for 24 hrs. They come about every 15-30 seconds and last for 2-5 seconds. I have taken Advil and even the Tylenol PMs to get some rest, but as soon as I awake they are there, which tells me they never left. I also experienced some fever and backache for the last couple of days so I thought it was a flu virus, but I don't think so anymore.

Above all, i get a shard pain in the right side of my head by my temple every now and again and i get sharp pains in the upper left hand side of my head as well. im really worried and am looking forward to talking to my doctor about it, it should happen on or around may 22nd.

I am so glad it's not just me
I have been having sharp pains on the rear left side of my head for the last 6 months on a daily basis. We (my husband and I) chalked mine up to sleep deprivation at first because I am a full time student and I work a full time job at night. We are now rethinking this due to the fact that the last few headaches I had like this caused nosebleeds. I have been to the doctor and had every one of the tests listed in other posts and they have diagnosed it as everything from sinus infections to dehydration headaches. Has anyone else been to the doctor and found out anything more useful than what the quacks here are telling me? I hope so because they seem to be getting worse and the last one hit as I was driving and they are blindingly painful.
