Short, Sharp Pains In My Head... (Page 7)

Over the past week or so, i have had pains at the bottom of my head/top of neck. They feel sharp/twichy and throbing..I dunno what they could be..Its worrying me. Any ideas? They come and go xxxxx

Okay I feel a little better that Im not the only one with this same stabbing undiscribable pain in the left side of my head right above my ear and all around that area when you think you are the only one with this it makes you so depressed especially when the doctor doesn't even know what to tell you, they just keep giving you pain pills or antidepressants telling you that you are probably depressed and Im not a depressed type person but this pain in my head is making me be like that sometimes. I just want myself back and I wish the doctors would look further into this. Right now Im taking percocets and it really doesn't do that much for the pain because it is always there even when it's dull its there. This has been going on for me for that last 4yrs. I had an operation for a ruptured ear and I believe the surgeon hit a nerve while he was inside my head. I don't know, I just want some relief. I do find being active helps the pain subside for a while but as soon as your sitting still it comes back. Sorry I wrote so much just need to vent.

I get them too, but im only 21. Im having one now that comes and goes. back right side on top of my head. it scares me. i also get very dizzy and my sight turns white/black at times when im standing or walking. i havent been to the doctor about any of this. im scared. is it normal for a 21 year old to be going through this?

This is the FIRST time I've ever written on a Med site. you just don't know how good it is to know that others have this random, sharp pain that feels like an ice pick in their head, just above the ear! Today I am having one of the worst cases EVER! I will go to the doc and ask for Indocin. Question: Could these have anything to do with an absessed tooth or gum disease? My gums NEVER bleed, but last night when I brushed my teeth, there was a very sensitive area that bled way in the back of my mouth near the molar area on the left side. Go upwards about 3 inches and that is where these stabbing pains occur. Wondering if anyone has heard of a correlation between dental issues and this "ice pick" headache. Thanks

I have been experiencing this since August. I don't like the name ice pick headaches, mine feels like a giant metalic ball with spikes behind my right eye. I don't know what way it is going to move or when. Almost always feel the sharp pain behind my eye or in the temple. Broke down and went to the doctor, cat scan on Wendesday.

Hi I have the exact same pains. I get them in my eyes, temples and all different places in my head. Its so frustrating, trying to focus at college and work! I have had them for little over a year and I'm 18 years old. I got these when I was 16.
I have also noticed my Head Twitches. Has anybody got this aswell?
I am seeing my GP on the 11th November and she has already sent me to an eye doctor as I was born with a Congenital squint (crosseyed) and 2D vision which has been corrected by 4 surgeries and I now some 3D vision. All my tests on my eyes came back fine.
When I see my GP on the 11th I hope she'll send me to a Neurologist. Its so frustrating to see so many of us having this and yet no answer to what it is! Hopefully Il find out soon And I will let you all no if I get any answers From my GP.

i have had these pains for 8 weeks everyday doctor says its in my mind lol but its not very sharp intense in different places feel short of breath too dont know what to do

I suddenly started getting these sharp, stabbing pains behind my right ear. My neurologist is sending me for an MRI tomorrow, but diagnosed me with shingles in my right eyebrow! He but me on heavy doses of Valtrex for the shingles, along with tegretol for the supposed neuralgia behind my right ear (sharp, stabbing pain). After 2 days, the pain is still there, just as sharp as ever.

ive been having the same problems too.
i have a sharp pain on the right side of my head for about 3 seconds then it is followed by a hot-cool sensation.i dont know what it is.its been going on for about 1 month now.

It's so nice to find other people with this and that it is recognized by the medical community! I've been having head spikes since I badly pulled a neck muscle that gave me vision-loss migraines (with floaters and shiny things, then loss of peripheral vision, then total blackout - terrifying!). Now, if my neck gets tight, the spikes return. They tend to focus on the right side, often behind the right ear, but like to move around. I try to take something to relax the neck muscles and will try heat and icy-hot type topicals, but mostly, I know I'm just going to suffer and jerk every time I get stabbed. When they spikes start, I do wind up more light sensitive than usual and get an overall dull headache to go with it. I also almost feel like I'm in a mild sensory overload - I tend to be jumpy and twitchy, ready to crawl out of my skin.

I have been prescribed butal for menstrual migraines, but had no idea it could be used for the pain spikes as well. Will try it and see. I do know if I get a regular nasty migraine, the rest of the week my head feels tender and I'm more likely to get head spikes later in the week. I don't know if it's relevant, but I've had non-life-altering tinnitus since I was little (sometimes with vision loss - sounds go up, fade to black, and then sounds go out, fade back in, normally fairly quickly) and do get regular sinus problems. But I didn't suffer migraines til early 30s.

I have random pain in different areas of my head. This has been on-going for about 2 years. The shooting pain will last about 5 seconds and also feels like a pressure or movement through my head. I have spoken with my doc about this and she has finally ordered a mri.

hello! my name is Emily, im 17 years old, i too have been experiencing sharp random pains in the back of my left ear and sometimes that back of my head, they last for about a second, then dissapear. i also have been having anxiety attacks lately, so maybe that is a cause of these pains? i feel better knowing that im not alone, and if anybody has anymore info, please write me..

I also experience these and have been for years recently they have been getting worst. I get them more often and in different spots.

I had an MRI they found nothing...

I don't feel stressed right now i actually was sharing a happy moment with friends last night when they hit.

This morning it hit me hard in the top of my head.

I use sinus rinse to help and it does sometimes but very little. any idea people..

I've, too, been having these pains in my head, but only for about two-three days. The pain usually starts when I'm in college doing work, or trying to memorise some lines. The pain does distract me from my work, but only lasts up to 40 seconds, I'd say. And I have also noticed that the pain always is on the left side of my head, but either near my forehead, or at the back of my head.
Before these started I had frequent headaches starting from, roughly, 5-6 months ago. I was thinking about booking an appointment with my doctor, just to see how things are, but I'm not sure... any help on what I should do?

Hi all, i searched all over the internet when my head pain was unbearable, literally ruining my life!! sharp pain in the back of my head right side coming through to the back of my eye! Agony,excruciating cannot use enough words to describe how bad but guess you all understand. After 12 months got to see a neurologist who refused to do an MRI as id already had one (2 years previous). He mentioned a form of migranes called Paroxysmal Hemicrania and prescribed Indometacin (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/paroxy smal_hemicrania/paroxysmal_hemicrania.htm) Well although i couldnt believe it would work i tried that was 2 months ago and the head pain GONE!!! Slight symptoms hanging around and slight side effects but i wouldn't swap for the pain xx Maybe you should mention this to your doctor, good luck x

I just had two sharp pains in my head and a sence of heavyness in the back of my head. I also have a tingling sensation in my head and a numbness that keeps comeing over my head and my gag reflex seems to be affected two. I have never felt this before my it was such a seering pain I amost fell over. Any ideas?
The pain is in my right side of my head and the numbness and tingling seems to be more prodomenent in the left side.
The tingling numbness can best be described as if you were getting a back rub and you have that sudden tingling sensation that washes over you.

I say to all of you, If you are eating or drinking anything with aspertame in it. Stop immediately, it is a major trigger for migraines, google it! Side ewffects of aspertame. it is in most diet drinks,foods,sugarless gum.mints etc.
