Pain
I too have had these pains and having them now so I looked it up. I have occipital nerve damage and have had them since I had the nerve cartorized. (Burned) In my neck and occipital nerve, greater (whole head) and lesser, right next to my ear for 10 years. The burn pain is new,and from a ice-pick headache or nerve sensation in the occipital nerve. I would have it checked. I have taken anti-convulsants (sp), imitrex, reglan, prednisone and naprosyn. I am now taking Midrin since nothing else worked. Before, I took 10 others that did not work either. Take a 500 naprosyn and get in the hottest shower you can. Then take a nap if you can, or if you cant in a dim room, it will help you relax. See a doctor, preferrable a neurologist or pain clinic. Without it I would have not enjoyed my babies 1st year. When she cried, it hurt so bad I cried. Hope this helps.

Stabbing Pains in My Head
I am so happy that I googled this site!!! I just had one of those stabbing pains in my head. I have them from time to time and was afraid that I had a brain tumor. I've had a couple of CT scans for concussions, but nothing ever shows up on them. I was afraid to tell anyone about them. I too experience the blurry vision, nausea sometimes following the pains. I've had them for years though so I don't think it's anything major. It's just nice to know that you are not alone when freaky things happen to you! Smile

I am sooo glad I'm not the only one!!!
Hey, i have the exact same sympotoms! Sharp pain usually on the back right side of my head, but sometimes on the left. I used to have them quite often, so my doctor sent me for an eye exam. Turned out i had a stigmatism, so now i wear glasses. I KNEW this wasn't the problem though, but i went along with it. Now, the pain still happens but only every now and then. Each time it lasts for a few seconds..kind of like a surging pain...then if i touch the spot it's still sore and it's kind of a throbbing pain.
I'm thinking it could be stress..that's a pattern i've been noticing the past few times.

so glad i found this forum
I have been having short stabbing pains in my head for about 4-5 weeks. I had a bout of the flu and they started then. Mostly the pain is on the right side about 2" above my ear. Sometimes in my left temple. It lasts several seconds and then subsides. My head is sore if I press on that spot. Ibuprofen doesn't really help but at least I can go to sleep if I take some. I mentioned these symptoms to a PA today and he suggested that I see my regular MD if they persist. He said it sounded like cluster headaches to him. I don't agree. Any comments? I sure would like some help and relief.

Sharp pains in the head
I have been experiencing similar pains!!! Mine are sharp..not really painful, but very annoying and just yesterday the pain traveled down the right side of the back of my neck. I've also experienced little tingly sensations in my head...never had any other symptoms and not a frequent head ache sufferer either. This happens infrequently, from every other day, to maybe twice a month, to not at all. However, I have been under an extreme amount of stress since October of last year with nearly losing my sister due to a doctor's mistake..and now the recession has hit my home and my husband is out of work due to a bankrupt company...I am terrified of going to the doc still the same!!

i get sharp pains all over my head, had it for about 5-6 months, i work myself up thinking its something serious. When asked my doctor about it he pushed and pressed different areas of my head and said it was sinus problems :S i was in a car crash 2 yrs ago and suffered severe whiplash and suffer from a bad back and spine. do you think that it could be sinus trouble or down to my accident? or possibly something else?

Could this be from menstruation?
WOW! Im a Mom of a 13 year old whom has many of the symptoms you guys have posted, but hers is on the left side. The very first symptom she reveals is nausea usually in the morning. Now she is telling me the left side of her head, front to back, aches and has vomiting sensations. She has been complaining of being hot at night when our home stays at 69 degrees. Her sleep pattern is another area of concern. She does not dream, but when she does she cannot remember what she has dreamth. I am not looking for a diagnosis but it is good to know other people have similar symptoms that are real.

Stabbing Pains in the Head
I also have sharp stabbing pains behind my left ear. I was worried it was an aneurism. Im still a little worried. Im actually suffering from it right now. Mine are also about 2-5 second long and have lasted for about 2 hours off and on now. Do you think it might be caused by something in the ear?

Sharp Pains on Temples
Thank you for all the information! I thought I was crazy and a hypochondriac for thinking there was something wrong with me. I have experienced the sharp pain on the sides of the temples and throughout the head for 5-10 seconds as well. I'm glad to know that there are others out there experiencing the same thing.

Jolting Migraines
I am 49 and have had migraines since I was about 15. For the last 10 years or so I've had nearly daily headaches. Last July I started having the jolt pain that only lasted a second, it was on the left side of my head about 2 1/2 inches above my ear. It would hurt so bad I would wince and people thought I had the hiccups because I would do this every few seconds. This went on for 4 days. (The morning after it started my husband had a heart attack and I didn't go to the doctor for it until he came home.) The neurologist said it was "a weird kind of migraine". I got some kind of shot for it and it was gone in about an hour. My daughter gets these same kind of jolting migraines.

Sharp Pains!!!
Thank you to Lisda and dragonlady, as I have been experiencing the exact symptoms. It feels almost electrifying (not sure on how to explain). The pain will just come with no notice and it will last for almost 5-10 seconds and it starts in lower left hand side of my head. I get these pains anywhere from twice to five times a day and some days I don't feel anything (weird). I actually just set up an appointment with my doctor to see what she thinks it might be. I'm a little scared, but I have to see if it's something more, or if she can give me something. I think it has a lot to do with stress as I have a 5 and 3 year old (which are always fighting with each other). However, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one and that it may not be anything serious.
