I had an (maybe) epilepsy when I was 16 years old, I don't why it can happen to me because 15 years I passed, I don't have any decease that I would got this terrible illness. I can't pass my teenage time for four years. Day by day I pass only in my room, or to the university. Its a little weird a sixteen years old boy just staying at home, isn't it? I had go to many doctors in my city, and they just give me a same medicine (depakote). What I wanna ask here is, is this the right medicine? Is there any side effect when I have it about 4 - 5 years?

Hello
I dont quite understand what you wrote.

Do you mean that you have been diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 16? And that you cant understand why you didnt get it when you were 13? Or younger?.

I am 22 and I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 21.

There are alot of medications out there at the moment. What type of seizures do you have? Mine are mostly complex partials and some grand mals. I currently take epilim ( sodium valproate 1200mg morning and night) with a combination of keppra 500mg morning and nite.

So far this combo is working well.

Check out the website :-

www.Emedical.Com.Au

you will find there when you look up epilepsy all the different drugs, types of seizures and you can see what best describes your seizures personally that is how I found out that I wanted to try keppra. Because b4 I was on tegretol(cabramazapine) and it wasnt working well at all.

Take care sami ciao.

Yeah, I get it when I was 16 years old (now i'm 20 years old). Type of seizure that I have is before got epilepsy, i'm kinda have a terrible headache in my right side of brain and I tried to fight on it. So, sometime I can cancel this seizure after that I got myself sleep. There are 2 different situation I realized that is :

>> when I got the seizure, I fight on it by punch up my right side head
>> before I got it, I know the seizure might attack on me so I try to fight and relax down my body

of course, after i'd lost from fight the seizure I was lost contact with my body, what means I was unconcious. But all person that saw me said that I was got epilepsy. What kind of epilepsy is it?

Note : I don't want get those illness younger, I just don't get it why it happens after the time that I have to be full of knowledge. This illness quite disturbing my study >_<

I am so sorry the seizures started for you. 70% of all who have seizures start will never know why it happened.

The meds used depends on the type of seizure you have. If it is a partial seizure, coming from one part of the brainl, certain meds will be used. If it is a generalized seizure, another med might be best!

Depakote it one that works for a variety of seizures. If this is not working well for you, talk to your doctors to see if there is another medication that you can try.

I wish you the best!

Hello There Again
Depakote - is the name in america to my knowledge it has been around for about 20 yrs, prehaps more, it is called epilim here. I totally understand the fighting the seizure stage. I try to also do this myself.

You say that you feel headaches in the side of your head, those are your temples. It is a type of epilepsy the most common, called temporal lobe epilepsy.

I have this also, and to my personal experiences as I havent dealt with it long in my life as most of the ppl in this forum, but my seizures are partial - complex and grand mal like.

I hear and I feel but then I phase out and I dont remember much of the event, also the different types of medications used to control fits. (anticonvulsants ) can change the way that you feel n things.

I have experianced that since being on keppra I am now more aware of an eisode comming on. Where as before I would not have much warning at all. I guess I now get the aura more then the actual seizure and I now also get the post ictil state after, I feel mentally n physically drained more now

but its alot better then what I was dealing with b4. I would have rolling seizures sometimes up to 5.

Temporal lobe epilepsy is the most commonest but yet the hardest to treat as its hard to find the area most commonly affected.
