Late Birth Control Pill Panic Posted: 12-30-04 20:42pm
I'm in a bit of a panic. I took the third
last of my active pills about 9 hours
late. I followed the instructions and
took it as soon as I remembered and then
continued on with the rest of my pills. I
finished the pills 3 days later and had my
period as normal the following week. The
day after I finished my period I had
unprotected contact with my boyfriend (we
used a condom, but did have some contact
before the condom). I am worried that the
missed pill would have altered my
ovulation cycle for my next preiod, and
that having sex a week after missing my
pill may have been a mistake. Could
someone please give me some advice, or try
to calm me down, bacuse as the days go by
i'm starting to freak out even more.

you were ok up until your
period. 9 hrs is enough of a margin to
protect you.
It is not clear whether your latest sex
was more than one week after your last
pill? If so, you would not be protected
at all during this whole month, as the
hormones need to be onboard from the very
start of the cycle to prevent the ovaries
from kicking into gear. But if your
period ended before the 7 days were up and
you were not yet scheduled to start the
next pack, then you should be ok.

Thanks for your help. The sex that I had
was during the 7 days of sugar pills, and
then I started the next pack on the
schedueled day. My concern was that I
had taken the third last pill in the
previous pack late, and then finished the
pack and took the 7 day break. I thought
it might mess up my next cycle and cause
me to ovulate early (possibly during the 7
day break or shortly after) thus putting
me at risk. I know that I followed the
instructions perfectly but I am still
really worried that I put myself at risk.
Anyone else have words of encouragement
for me?
