Hello, I have a problem. I have been burping for 6 months. This is not just the average burp or two after you drink a soda. I burp for hours at a time, and it gets very painful. It gets really bad after I eat meat, dairy products and fried food. Also I start to burp if I havent eaten anything. My diet lately has consisted of rice, soups, and dry cereal. After I have been burping for at least an hour I my abdomin gets swollen. It is tender to the touch, the right side of my chest gets shooting pressure like pain. I can actually hear the gasses traveling up my stomach and through my esophagus. I have tried everything you can think of, mylants, zantac 75, pepcid ac, tums, pepto bismo, protonix, prevacid, and aciphex. Nothing has helped. I still take the protonix daily because I am afraid it will get worse if I stop. I do not have insurance, otherwise I would have gone to see a doctor already. Do I have time to wait until I get insurance,or do you think that this is serious. I am not sure what to do. Thank you-april

When do you think you will have insurance?? It sounds like you may have some sort of bacterial problem.. Maybe something different. If you have no other discomfort other than the burping, it doesn't sound like it's an emergency.. But I wouldn't let it go on too long...

I have had a very similar problem for over two years. I went to my doctor, had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy and was tested for bacterial infection. After all that my doctor said, "No one ever died from burping." and sent me home. I am still suffering from chronic burping.
