Irregular Cycles - Not Ovulating? Posted: 12-28-04 17:16pm
I was on the pill for six years until just
about a year ago. For the first seven
months after I went off it my cycles were
still pretty regular. But in the last
five months i've only had three periods.
I started charting my temperature, and it
looks like i've been ovulating, just
really late. I'm thinking about going to
the doctor about it, even though I had a
blood test a few months ago that came back
normal. There's lots of information
online about infertility, but everything's
so vague... "oh it could be this, or it
could be this, or it could be five
thousand other things..." though I guess
that's just the nature of the beast.

Irregular Cycle Posted: 01-10-05 01:06am
Mattlizr:
my wife was on the pill for almost 12
years primarily because she had an
irregular period (her cycle goes almost
every three months but is not consistent).
The pill helped to regulate her cycle.
When we decided to try to have children.
Her irregular cycle made it difficult to
try to have children. Two years later we
had a baby boy.
You still ovulate but not as frequently as
normal women.
It is good for you to track your
temperature. We are trying to have a
second child and my wife has been doing
this. She still is trying to understand
her body.
We try to have sex every other day.
Sperm may last several days and waiting
every other day allows for a greater
secretion especially if your husband is in
his thirties. If he is in his twenties,
I am sure you can do more.
My wife is on the heavy set side, when she
decided to run a half a marathon, she lost
about 25 lbs. I believe the loss of
weight and benefits of exercise helped her
cycle. I think her cycle was every other
month as she continued to train. She
started running in february. We ran the
half marathon in sept. We found out she
was pregnant two days before christmas.
What a christmas present, that's when she
decided to tell me.
I am not sure how long you have been
trying, but if it has been a while, have
you husband tested for his sperm count.
Just to take out this doubt. You can do
all the tests you can on you, but if he is
shooting blanks, there is little chance
for you to get pregnant. If you have
been trying for over a year, many health
plans will cover part of the cost.
I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the support and suggestions.
We've been trying for just about a year
now. We've read that it's best to have
sex every other day, but it's really
difficult to it that infrequently and on a
schedule. :(
we're both 24, so age isn't an issue, and
both of us exercise regularly (but i'm
careful not to overdo it). As far as I
can tell we're doing everything we can do
ourselves.
I have an appointment next week with a
doctor to talk about it and to see if we
should go ahead with the fertility tests.
Everybody keeps saying that my husband
should be tested first since it's an
easier test, but I want to get us both
done at the same time since a third of the
time both people have a problem.
