I am a lupus patient and I have been see a
doctor but I feel she is just going thru a
list of drugs like beta blockers,
presione, plax, and it appears to me that
none are working. I heard of this
treatment called cytoxan has anyone heard
of or is under this treatment?? What are
results and how do you feel know. I have
made another appointment with another
doctor for a second opinion?

Cytoxin Posted: 10-24-03 16:47pm
Hi:
i am by no means a Dr., however my
understanding is that cytoxin is a form of
chemo-therapy that is applied in sever
cased of lupus nephritis. I do not
believe that it would be used as a form of
treatment for any other forms of lupus.
What are your symptoms? What type of dr
are you seeing?

Cytoxin is used in treating several types
of "complicated" organ involved lupus
including lupus nephritis, cns lupus,
etc...
However, i, for one, know that there are a
lot of drugs to try before cytoxin (it is
*not* a fun drug and is a class "x" drug
according to the fda.).
What is your involved organs and the stage
of involvement?
Has your doctor suggested any others?
Do you know of cellcept? This is a
transplant drug that does pretty well with
a lot of lupus nephritis patients.
Methotrexate (another more common chemo
drug that can be taken orally or by
self-injections)
i highly suggest, if you feel your meds
are not working to call the doctor asap!
If you want more information on the above
drugs, contact me over private mail. Hope
things get better.
