Hi
in 1994 I had an accident with quite an injury to my head. I was in hospital for four days.
More than a year later I had my first attack (a grand mall seizure). The frequency of my attacks has got lower through time but hasn't changed much in last couple of years. I take 400mg of tegratol cr a day at the most, and I can go for half a year without an attack. Then there are times when they can be a month appart.

My big question:
can these attacks just stop, or change the shape of the attack (that it may not be grand mall, but some other type of attack). Or do I just have to wait as the frequency of the attacks becomes lower & lower.

Does anyone have any experiences to share with me.

Is there hope for me

So sorry you had this all start with a head injury. They sure can change in type and frequency. It helps if you can keep the triggers low, lack of sleep, stress, poor diet, not taking medications on time or consistently all can increase the chances to seize.

Sometimes when you do everything right they still come...You can talk to your doctor to see if it is worth trying a different medication to see if they can be better controlled. Trileptal is in the tegretol family and some find it more tolerable ...

Hang in there. Read up and learn all you can to be the best advocate for yourself to get the best treatment. Hope you can get them better controlled.

Post Trama - Seizures
So sorry to hear this. I understand how you feel, a bit. I also was involved in a car accident in 1980 in which I received head injuries. I hit my head on my stearing wheel - it left a bruise where it hit.

Soon after this accident I started having these "seizures", although I really didn't know what they were. I chalked it up to working 45hrs a week while attending college all day - just plain stress and no sleep.

My mom finally made me see a neurologist who preformed test which diagnosed me as having seizures. I don't have grand mal type seizures. Mine are more cronic-klonic partial-complex seizures. Neuro immediately placed me on phenobarbitol. Years later [and several neuro's later], my current neuro has me on felbatol and keppra. This combo seems to work well. Seizures have been downgraded to "simple seizures" with occasional "partial complex" (usually oround monthly period).

Good luck and we all hope they all [seizures] go away!
