Ok I been going crazy with this. Can you
possibly catch hepatitis or hiv from going
to get teeth pulled from an oral surgeon
and being put to sleep they stick a needle
in your arm?..How clean are there tools at
the dentist?..My teeth hurt bad and this
is why I havent gone to a dentist in years
im scared ill catch something.I had my
teeth looked at and I need 2 teeth pulled
how safe is being put out?I had it done
years ago and the stick a needle in your
arm.Im sure im not the only person to
worry about this.I wonder how they clean
there tools and I hope they use a new
needle with the novocain and anastasia.

Hi a,
all dentists are required by law, to keep
all their dental and surgery impliments
sterilised and clean and new needles are
used with every patient. There has been a
little controversy over some dental
surgery's not keeping their equipment up
to standard, therefore I suggest you talk
to your dentist about their sterilisation
techniques before you have any procedure
done, i'm sure they would be more than
happy to explain what they do at their
particular surgery, and possibly even have
written pamphlets and hand outs for
concerned patients.
Regards...

Just wanted to confirm what suzy said.
Dentists are required by law to sterilize
every tool used.
Once the tools are sterilized they are
placed into bags, and sealed. When the
dentist comes in to work on you, he will
open that bag... Usually in front of
you, so there is no question about it...
And if he doesn't, you can always request
it.
And as for the needles. Once a needle is
used, it is thrown away immediately.
While you are in the dentists office, look
around on the walls... There are usually
little bins that say something like
"sharps" or "wallmate" on them... They
are for disposing the needles.
don't worry about it. There are so many
laws out there, and they are there to
protect you!
Good luck with your surgery.

P.S.
All needles come pre-packaged from the
manufacturer, and individually wrapped.
So if you're really concerned, just let
the dentist know ahead of time that you
would like to actually witness him/her
opening the packaged needle.
If they have a problem with this...
Leave, and find another dentist!!!

What suzy said is very true....I have had
a few teeth pulled and if u dont like
being put to sleep I would suggest u have
them just numb the area bacause it will go
alot faster and also u can watch
everything they do.
