...Had confirmed it til recently. I've probably had it for 10 yrs, never confirmed it cause I was afraid. I just recently confirmed it. I have had perhaps 3 very mild breakouts the last being 4 years ago. Over the past decade i've had several longterm (1-3 yrs)relationships which included regular unprotected sex. None ever contracted the disease. Now i'm facing the facts and wondering what I should do.
Do I need to be put on suppressive therapy?
Are there variances in how active the virus is?
Is it possible that I am only contagious when the disease is 'active' i.E sores are present?
What is shedding?
Does suppressive therapy significantly reduce the risk of shedding?
Is it possible to, and are there people who, have long term relationships and not transmit the disease to their partners?
Is this common or rare?
Please don't come back with ambiguous answers like "...There's always a chance..." the girl I was seeing saw these over and over and dropped me like a bad habit. She too is clean of the virus. We were together over a year.
Now I need to tell future partners but let's be honest, most aren't real keen on getting news like this. I want to have as much info as possible, not just the "i'm telling you cause I wanna be open and honest blah blah." those kind of statements aren't that comforting. Sure 1 in 5 people have it, but few of those know it and I bet alot of them are like me...They aren't so surprised when they find out.
Thanks in advance.
