Mucous And Blood With Stool

On nov. 29 I developed severe diarrhea and abdominal discomfort in my upper right quad. Went to th Dr. He felt I had a vius. Severe diarrhea lasted maybe 48hrs. By dec1 I noticed mucous and blood with loose stools(3-4 a day till dec.4). Hea-tested both stool and mucous-- no blood in stool,positive for blood in the mucous. Dr. Said we would watch it for 2 weeks if stiil happening take other measures. Now my stool is formed brown with the mucous and blood on the outside. Still testing the same as above no blood in the stool, blood in the mucous. Sometimes I can have a normal stool and other times it will have mucous and blood around the outside of it. ? What could be causing this? Coud I still maybe have a virus/ als I work in a hospital as a nursing assistant. I thought also iwas eating a good many choc covered almonds during the week this all started,? Could this have stirred something up?
