Lately I have been having what feels like an irregular heart beat with a listless feeling,it seems to pass if I eat something with sugar in it.I've had several blood tests for outher things but no one ever mentioned anything about having diabetis.Do they check for this every time or do they have to be looking for it?

Standard blood analyzes should include measuring of the blood glucose level.
Any heart arrhythmia needs to be registered on ECG. Have you ever made ECG of the heart?
Your symptoms ("irregular heart beat that pass if eat something with sugar in it") sound like tachycardia provoked by hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level) but need to be proven with ECG and biochemical test for blood glucose level in the moment of irregular heart beating.
