I was wondering why is pain in appendicitis reflected in the periumbilical area. I am aware that the aesthetic nerves climb all the way up to the superior mesenteric ganglia. There, they acquire fibres from the visceral nerves, as well as the t9-l1 ganglia. I am also aware that the same ganglia lead to the dermotomes in the periumbilical area. Is this why ache is reflected there? Or has it anything to do with their embryological origins? Thanx in advance.
