Hi my names melanie and ive been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on the 24th of november 2004, im on metaformin 1000mg a day. Ialso test myself 4times a day for sugar, ive read a lot about diabetes as it runs in my family. Ive read most of the postings on here and a few make me mad when people think they can cure their diabetes or skip insulin injections, its something you have for the rest of your life, but is something you can manage with diet, exercise and medications. We all live health lives if we keep our sugar levels at a safe level. The glucose machines here in australia test different to those in the u.S. My blood tests are around 9.0 mmol but laterly its around 7.2 which is in the normal range
4-8mmol is normal here
my partner first noticed the signs of diabetes and made me go for a test im glad that she did because I wouldnt of as I was scared. Thankfully my blood presure and colestrol are both normal, just have to work on the sugar and wieght now. I walk 1.5km a day for exercise and eat healthy meals no junk boohoo. Has anyone else had there sugar levels rise when drinking diet cokes mine does as ive been doing little tests on myself one day I dont drink anything but water then the next I add diet coke atevening meals to see the difference on the times ive had the coke its gone up to 10 and on the other times it stays below 8 after tea test but normally im very good with what I eat I only have a blow out every now and then as a treat which isnt to bad my partner is an epileptic so we both keep an eye on each other sharing the job of minder ty all for listening to my rambles tc all

Fasting glucose level should be under 6.7 mmol/L.
Very important parameter to evaluate long-term glucose regulation is percentage of glycolised hemoglobin (HbA1c). It should be less than 7.5%. How much is your HbA1c?
How much are your weight and height?

Hi Melanie
I agree with you about Diabetes. It doesn't go away. Even if you exercise and eat right. You can control it though. What you want is to keep blood sugars within range so hopefully you don't develope complications later down the road. Diabetes 2 is in my family as well. I have high cholesterol as well also.
I find that Diet soda does the same for me. I don't drink it because of the chemicals in it. I am a coffee drinker (which isn't good either).
Your machines test the same as ours in Canada. My last A1C was 6.9
That's great that you have someone for support. It really helps. My Mom has epilepsy. Have you checked out our forum for epilepsy?
