Q: Left Upper Quadrant And Back Pain

I am a 29 year old female I have had upper left to mid quadrant pain and it radiates directly through to my back. I also have a burning sensation in my upper back between my shoulder blades. This has been going on fo over a month now and the pain is very intense and gnawing. The pain is sometimes in right upper quadrant as well. I have no vomitting but am sometimes nauseated. My stools are normal ie no black tarry stools or visible blood. I've lost approximately 10 lbs. I've had my bilirubin, amylase, liver function, glucose as well as other blood tests done and all came back normal. I am getting an abdominal ultrasound and upper gi series done this week as well.
I am worried the tests won't show anything either and i'll be in pain like this for mucher longer than need be. Does anyone have any thoughts about what this might be?
Thank you

Hello constant. My pain is identical but not constant. It sometimes migrates to my left shoulder blade and leaves me with a tingling burning sensation. I've yet to see my doctor but it seems to be aggravated by alcohol in my case. I sometimes pass gas and it seems to alleviate the pain. I wonder if the gas behind the diaphram is a sign of a hole in the stomach or bowel? Any suggestions anyone?

Same Problems - Might Have Solution
For me it all started 4 months ago. I woke up in the morning, and I felt quite hungry. Now, every day I go to bed hungry and I wake up hungry, even though I had dinner...Later I started having lower back pain, and I went to have an x-ray, and later a ct done. They showed no physical alternations....So I was suggested to swim... Finally, I started having very bad cramps in my stomach, and i've been feeling sick since 2 months now. They've treated me with anti-acid stuff, but it didn't solve the problem. Two weeks ago Űi realized, that the lower back-pain, which i've been having moved to my upper/mid-back. I also realized, that the pain from my stomach is actually what causes my back to hurt. I've taken a blood test, but only a part of it is done so far. The doctor said, that so far it doesn't look too good, and they think I have helicobacter pylori, which causes peptic ulcers. I have to wait anohter five days, to find out about the results, as they have to exclude other illnesses right now...However, it is christmas now, and I really have a hard time dealing with my pain. Do you have any suggestions on how I could relief the pain...

Thank you,

and happy holidays!

Trouble Stomach Pain
Hi,

which test for your helicobacter pylori? The gastroscopy or blowing test?

I have nausea last more than a year. Pain at the upper right abdomen about a month and lower back pain come and go for six months long. I also had a left chest pain. Only thought and diagnosed was musclar skeleton pain and never thought is related to stomach. Now travel to lower abdomen pain.

I have a very frequent vibration on my chest, now it goes down to hands and legs. It is sensed like blowing bubbles. I went to see a dr and he said is uti??? I didn't run to toilet often for vee but run often to open bowel.

My local dr wants me to see a gastro dr because of mild anemia show on the blood test. Was the test for "h. Pylori" is painful? I'm start to scare now and is having pains. Very nervous!

Let me know how you are all going and the test result. Keep updating. I'll let you know my cardio visit. (this is a second dr but first visit, I can't afford the first Dr. She only goes to private hospital).

Pika.

Last week I had a hida scan done because of right abdomen pain and upper right chest pain. Found out my gallbladder is only functioning at 10% and the doc thinks he found an ulcer in my stomach on the scan also. Well the last couple of days I have been having upper left and right chest pains and pain between the shoulder blades. The left chest pain started and I also had trouble breathing so I went to the er. Had chest xray, ekg, and blood tests. Doc said all tests were "perfect" and he thinks the left chest pain is due to my gallbladder/ulcer. I always thought gallbladder pains were only felt in the right upper chest but from reading on the net have found out upper left chest pain is not rare with gallbladder problems. I also learned with gallbladder problems your stools can sometimes be a lighter than normal color. I read up on my symptoms on the net and basically diagnosed myself with the gallbladder disease. My doc thought I had acid reflux. I almost had to make him order the hida scan and he couldn't believe my gallbladder was only functioning at 10%. Might be something to think about if your doc hasn't mentioned a possible gallbladder problem.

Hi.. I hope someone can help me. I had gastric bypass surgery 7 years ago. Recently I have been experiencing episodes of incredible pain on my left side, under my ribs, and at the same time a severe pain in my left shoulder. I saw my pcp for this, and she took x-rays, blood work, couldn't determine cause. I am anemic, do not have a gall bladder, but am very worried about a stomach ulcer. My sister had an ulcer that perferated, and she died from complications. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

pain behind left ribs
I had excruciating pain behind my left ribs for years, and I had several tests (blood work, colonoscopy, endoscopy, x-rays, etc.) and my Dr could not find a problem. I was prescribed a mild anti-anxiety med to calm me down, because I was pretty scared it might be something deadly. Finally, I met with a Dr who suggested that i may have Splenic Flexure Syndrome (Google it) which is trapped gas at the bend in your colon near the spleen, which is directly behind the lower left rib cage. I thought "trapped gas, yeah right!", but I followed his advice anyway, because I was desperate to end the pain. He told me to take Simethicone, which is available in Mylanta, Gas-X, and Multi-Symptom Rolaids. I now take 2 Multi-Symptom Rolaids (which contains 120mg simethicone) after each meal, and I am pain free!!!
I noticed the pain was gone after only 1 day! I hope this helps!!!!!!

pain behind left ribs
ribs can sometime get in a bind, from twisting etc...go to a chiropractor and tell them about the pain...very often they can do an adjustment that will move the rib back where it belongs and alleviate the pain. I have had this happen and it feels very much like what many of you described ...the pain is very intense, in the back...behind the heart area...It can be so intense that it is scary...I even thought I might be having a heart attach... It's an easy fix...and at least worth a try!!

Pain on lower left abdominal
I've always had pain on my lower left abdominal for years. Just recently in addition to that pain I started pulling my muscle about every other month and having lower back pain. I went to my doctor who referred me to a physical therapist. The physical therapist couldn't figure out what was wrong with my back. I recently called my mom last weekend and she told me that it wasn't my back. It was my stomach causing my back problems. According to my culture's beliefs, they believe that all pain (headache, backache, feet aches, etc) is caused by your stomach. My mom advised me to massage my stomach with the tips of my fingers where it hurts by pressing down on the pain until you cannot take it anymore followed by three firm pushes. I massaged my stomach for about an hour. The next morning when I woke up my back no longer hurt. If this doesn't work.... look up Japanese acupuncture.
