Can somebody explain me why walking is so
beneficial to disc herniations.
A scientifical answer will be the best.

Why Walking Is Good For Disc Health Posted: 12-09-04 02:22am
After the age of 25, the disc only
receives blood supply by a sponge like
action (called imbibition). Walking
transfers weight from one leg to the other
(unlike standing in which the weight is
never taken off of the back). This
movement helps increase the circulation to
the disc. Standing puts the low back
into slight extension which helps adjust
the disc a way from the nerve. Sitting
is usually damaging to the disc as there
is 16 times more pressure in the disc
sitting than standing and the low back is
in flexion rather than extension.
Go to www.Wevegotyourback.Com and go to the disc herniation page.
They've discussed a treatment for disc
problems that uses this motion to treat
disc problems. The doctor there works
with me as a professor at a chiropractic
college in los angeles

Correction On Last Response Posted: 12-09-04 02:24am
I am at the age of 25 right now, is it
possible my discs heal since they are in a
mild state of herniation? The herniations
never put me to bed. I was always active
with a little vaxation to the right leg
and berable pain at lower back.

Disc Herniation After 25 Posted: 01-02-05 14:07pm
Yes. Your disc can heal. First you
want to correct the alignment of the spine
by finding a good chiropractor and then
strengthen your back with appropriate
exercises. Just because you're over 25
doesn't mean the disc can't heal. If
your in los angeles, see Dr. Morris

When you say "heal" you mean partialy?
Because from some research I have made I
found that disc injuries heal at 1/3 of
the outer anulus fibrosus conective
tissue, the inner part of the disc is
avascular so healing is something
questionable.
