Im 17 yeas old and 3 months pregnet. I was diagnosed with bipolar about 2 years ago, but i've been off medications for a year. My cycle is consitent but the doctors had me takin up to 10 pills a day because they were tryin to find a combination that worked. I know bipolar is genetic, but is there a higher chance of my first boen gettin it? The father also has some mental problems, but not sure what they are. It seems like my baby is screwed either way, but is the chance higher for him to be bipolar since he/she will be my first born?

Beautiful Baby
Hello- i'm bi-polar and have been dx for 10ys. Now. My cycles are also very controlled or if there is such a thing as having a "mild" form of this illness. I'm the 3rd. Child in my family, and the only one dx with any type of issue . My father doesn't have any mental illness, but my mother does. I have a child who is now 16yrs. And has been dx with social anxiety disorder and is on medication for it. Please don't think that your baby doesn't have a chance. Every mother worries about their unborn and what may possibly be passed down to them. From uncle alberts hairy back to cousin betty's schizophrenia. Pray for a physically healthy baby and you can deal with whatever comes your way when it comes. My son has his issues, but he is getting the help, and intervention at an early age, and this will mean that he wont go through so much mess that alot of people go through because they don't know what is wrong with them, or they hide it with drugs and alcohol. So I bet he is more mentally healthy than teens his age because he is getting counselling to help him cope and understand himself. I think your baby has two parents who are already informed, and will be there to help "whatever" comes his/her way. Congratulations and good luck!!
