29 And Need Hysterectomy Posted: 12-04-04 02:02am
I am 29 years old and I have to have a
hysterectomy. At the age of 12 I was
diagnosed with endometriosis and that is
when it all started. I also had ovarian
cycsts that ruptured. I have had more
then 9 surgeries . On october of last
year I had a miscarriage and my bleeding
is out of control I only stopp ed
bleeding for one week a month. I was even
bleeding while I was on birth control. N
ow in 12 days I am having a hysterectomy,i
have read all the information and doctors
gave me information and I am scared this
is a big surgery.
If any one would like to talk please reply

Hi,
I can imagine how scared you are I
had a comlete hysterectomy when I was in
my fourties. I had terrible bleeding for
awhile over a period of several years that
would not stop. When I started going
through a box of pads in half a day then
the doctor said he would see me. He did a
d and c- dilation and curatage- that is
scraping the lining of the uterus. That
worked for about a week. He finally went
in and removed the fallopian tubes, one
ovary, and the uterus. Back then they did
a full cut through the muscles etc., etc.
I did not feel better for at least 6
months. When your losing that much blood
you can develop anemia and be run down. I
would suggest getting another opinion if
you have insurance and the operation is
done through the vagina now so understand
that it does not take so much out of you
as opposed to the surgery I had.Make sure
you have a complete cbc done to make sure
you are not suffering from any type of
anemia. After the operation don't be
afraid to rest, don't lift anything over 5
pounds, and most of all eat right. Your
bowel habits can change as everything
drops when all those parts are removed.
Don't use aspirin for the discomfort, as
aspirin can make you bleed. Eat salads
and lots of fiber veggies and fruits.
Drink juices etc. I will pray for you, if
they can't stop the bleeding it is a good
idea to have surgery. Go over it again
with your doctor and don't be afraid to
ask questions.
Love in
christ, leslie

Thank -you Posted: 12-04-04 13:13pm
Thank you for talking to me, I am very
well informed about surgey and I know all
the risks. It helps to talk to people it
helps me relax a little more before
surgery. My surgery is on dec.16 and I
will be in the hospital for christmas.I
geuss I worry about the scar I will have
on my bellly too, see a couple of years
ago I was suffering with a lot of pain due
to endometriosis and was on strong pain
killers and I did not want to take any
more pain killers so a doctor in toronto
set me up to have surgery to cut my nerves
in my lower abdome so I would not have any
more pain, and it worked for 2 years but
it left a horrible scar and now I am going
to have another scar. My belly is a mess
from all the surgeries. As for the
hysterectomy it is the best thing for me
and even with all the information I have
I am very scared still.
