Hi, I am a 18 year old guy, recently I
found a small lump just near my armpit and
it has like a little dot on it, I read
that if you press on it, it may be cancer
I am really worried what should I do

Ok guys, if you have a lump in your
armpit, please go to your doctor and get
it checked out. It could be as simple as
a sebaceous cyst (blocked sweat gland,
common in the armpit), a lipoma (fatty
benign tumor), or an enlarged lymph node.
Enlarged lymph nodes could be the result
of a local or systemic infection (nothing
to worry about, will go away), or could be
metastatic cancer or lymphoma. Depending
on your ages, I would particularly be
concerned about hodgkin's lymphoma or
breast cancer. Check your neck, other
armpit, and groin for any additional
enlarged nodes, and perform a breast self
exam (yes, even if you're a guy). While
it is likely a completely benign
condition, such as a sebaceous cyst,
please get it looked at. I am a general
surgery resident, and we recently operated
on a 25-yo man with breast cancer and
enlarged axillary lymph nodes.
Yea more in likely you dont' even have to
shave, or use any thing in the armpit..
I've had them a few times times, I think
what starts it, is maybe the change of
season. You sweat more. Something
causes the sweat duct to block up and you
get that sub skin abcess with staph
bacteria in there. Sometimes they will
get so big, you will have to get it cut
open by doctor and drained (kinda looks
like toothpaste) then he will pack it
with iodine soaked guaze and give you some
antibiotics.. Most people are
worried its cancer or sign of a major
infection like hiv, but most people are
also hypochondriacs. I hate when I get
them, its a pain in the ass, cant move
arm. Best thing to do is throw a wet
towel in microwave and take it out kinda
warm/hot and place it on armpit and keep
doing it, makes it feem better, might help
it.

Lump Help Posted: 08-29-06 08:24am
Ok someone help! Im 17 and I have this
lump under my armpit its horrible I can
bit my two finger round it, and its rock
solid and it really really hurts, and im
worrying like anything, could it be
cancer??????????????? Its not is it???
You know truthfully. I think a majority
of these lumps are coming from people that
have had surgery in a hospital, or been
involved in some close contact with
multippl people like wrestling. I
wrestled and I been in hospital for
sugery. There is a resistant strain of
bacteria they call mrsa, I have to see an
infectous diseases specialist because they
think may be that. They usually
prescribe combo of bactrim/rifampin. I
think they will need to give me iv of
something. The lump could also be the
dry shell of once was an abcess defeated
by your system, it can also come back.
Could also be some lymph node swelling up.
Best thing to do is go find the type of
soap sugeons/docs use when they wash their
hands or area of surgery, its called
ballard hex a clens*2. I would wash
yourself in crevaces groin, armpit,
tailone ect with that as preventative.
About the lump in armpit I would guess its
that staph infection and just wait and see
if it gets too big, doc will need to
cut/drain it. I found out not a lot of
docs know about these, most are in the
dark.

I don't have a lump in my armpit, but it
feels like a bruise or even like a small
pinching sensation. Does anybody know
what that could be? I just noticed it
this morning so I haven't decided to go to
the doctor yet. I think if it's still
there tomorrow I will make an appointment.
What do you think?

For the Record... Posted: 10-15-06 01:51am
Several people on this thread have
complained about lumps appearing that have
hurt when they press on them. For the
record, something such as lymphoma, which
typically presents itself as swollen lymph
nodes in the armpit or neck, does not
generally cause painful lumps. Some
lymphoma patients may complain that
swollen lymph nodes may hurt after
drinking alcohol (the reason for this is
uncertain), but they are not usually
tender/painful to the touch in general.
This is certainly not intended to
discourage anyone from getting their
condition checked out. You should always
evaluate lumps that appear on your body
with your doctor, but hopefully this will
at least ease some of your fears for those
of you that are thinking that it is most
certainly cancer. It can be any number of
things that are causing the lumps, cancer
which is just one of them. Also, cancer
is very uncommon in teens and young
adults, so don't freak out about it unless
you have a definite diagnosis, but do get
it checked out!

Hi Natalieann,
You should see a doctor. There are so many
things it could be, most of which are not
scary. It's best to have a real authority
tell you that you can stop worrying--it
takes such a load off.
Please keep us posted.

Lump In Armpit Posted: 10-21-07 14:11pm
In my opinion, lumps in armpits could mean
very trivial issues sometimes,because i
have had lumps that got me really scared
some time back.however when i did a proper
check up,i found it was nothing serious.so
my advice is to do a proper check up of
the lump so when you know what steps to
take next.

Do any of you ever get this symptom only
right before or during your period? that's
what seems to happen to me, it's more of a
sore vein or hurt feeling when you move
your arm. this time it seem s like a
little bump, which could be from shaving.
Also right before or during I get these
pains behind my left eye. I cant find much
info about the combination of symptoms
though. but feel they are connected
because they only happen to me at time of
menstruation.
Any similar cases?

I wouldn't really worry about it. If you
are getting regular check ups with your
doctor, they check for LYMPHOMA every time
you go in. And that is the most serious
possible condition when dealing with
'lumps' - 'those lovely little lumps' LOL.
But really - no need to worry. If you are,
then go see your doctor - Or use the "Ask
A Doctor" feature on this site, and be
overly detailed.

Hi,
I too just noticed a small peasized lump
in my armpit that is slightly sore. I'm
not sure how long this lump has been
there. It is not noticeable unless you
press it. I talked to my mom and she said
it could very well be an ingrown hair, or
a cyst. She said to give it a week or so,
and if it doesn't go away, go see a
doctor. I have checked other places and
don't see/feel any other lumps.
