It has taken me a very long time to gain enough courage to ask this very important question. I figured that everyone in here is a friend of mine and they wont judge me because of my past. Ok here I go.... Before I got pregnant I was heavy into drugs I smoked weed everyday and on the weekends I would roll on ecstasy, smoke embombing fluid, trip on acid or drink liquid codeine with juice until intoxicated. A few weeks before I conceived the funniest thing happened to me, every time I would do any drug except weed I would become violentley ill. I dont know if it was an act of god but it sure has saved my first born. I continued to smoke until I found out that I was pregnant and went cold turkey. The thing is that last summer I had a deadly reaction to some drug I had ingested and I was rushed to the hospital. I stopped breathing and flat lined on the table and the doctors brought me back by repeated compressions and c.P.R. Three of my ribs were broken and I was given vicodin for the pain. I became addicted to it and my grandmother fed my habit by replenishing my stash that was supposed to be for both my mom and i.I recently got over my addiction but im afraid the damage is done. My question is if anyone knows if past drug use or the use of vicodin during your pregnancy can damage my unborn fetus permanently. My doctor has told me that pregnant women are sometimes prescribed vicodin but my guilt is over bearing and I feel I have not done enough to ensure the health on my child by educating myself of the effects of my addiction. Does anyone know?

I think your baby is going to be fine.As long as you are not currently doing drugs, any past drug use should not have an impact on your baby.Long term use of acid can have some affect on your dna,but it does not seem that was the case with you.I know what it is like to kick drugs, good for you!!They only mask pain and do not make it go away.Think of your baby and hope you stay clean for your little one!(think of courtney love or anna nicloe as a mother!!!)good luck to you and baby!Patty

I was prescribed vicodin (sp?) while I was pregnant. I never took it though. I was still in the first trimester too! So, it is safe for a short period of time and used as directed. As far as any damage that may have already occured I don't know. I know I saw on either oprah or Dr. Phil a woman that was pregnant and addicted. Maybe you could do a search on one of their web sites for info. I do know this - if you are addicted it is dangerous to quit cold turkey, for you and the baby. Get professional help if you are still taking them and are planning/attempting to stop.

Well I was never too bad and the norm for me was taking just one a day. Do u think that that amount would be harmful if I stopped cold turkey?

Hi hun.... Well here it goes.. I had a friend that has done almost some of what you have... Anyways luckily none of it effected her baby. But the first thing is tell your doctor everything when they ask you about your past. There are some test that they can run. Also stay away from all and everything regarding strret drugs because what is addicting to you is very addicting to your unborn child and can harm your baby.. Also when your baby arrives the baby could go through withdrawls. So please dont start up again for you and your babies sake. I wish you luck in everything
i hope this helps and doesnt scare you but it is very important to know everything for you and your baby

How in the world do you smoke embalming fluid? How do you get it? Ok, that doesn't matter. I hope you and your baby are ok. I know people who did a lot of drugs while pregnant and the babies came out ok so everything could be great... Not saying that it's a reason to chance it but even if something was wrong doctors can do so much to help babies...

I was addicted to vicodin before I fell pregnant as well. I found out when I was about 4 weeks, and 2 weeks prior to that I had taken 5 or 6 of the pills per day for about a month straight, that was at my worst and after this is when I hit rock bottom and quit. I told my doctor about it and he said that the baby should be fine, but to not continue to do this. But he hasnt offered to run any tests for it, so I dont think he is worried. The only thing that has had an effect is my stomach is basicly no good anymore, it tore it right up. Either way, good luck to you. Im glad I got off of that, its not fun. Pm me if you need to talk.

Re
Hi I understand somewhat, I became involved in drugs when I was 13 and I had first left home. I was homeless until I was 15, when I got married. I still continued some drug use and alcohol but then I found out I was pregnant and was able to quit. I had to get help quitting though. Its great that you quit all of that. I looked up the effects of vicodin on pregnancy, and wasn't able to find to much but this might help.
