Q: Discharge From My Breast

I am having a thick grey discharge from my right breast. I know I am not pregnant and this has never happened before. It is not sore or tender. I can not feel a lump. My husband can not feel a lump. My last exam was less than 4 months ago and everything was fine.
I discovered it when I was drying off from the shower. It is not a constant leak, only when pressure is applied or expressed.
There is no odor.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Don't Worry!
Don't worry! Usually, your body it just secreating hormones that makes your body think that your pregnant! Until you feel a lump or something, I wouldn't even worry about it. By the way, just becasue its gray doesn't mean anything, it's still kind of like milk. Unless your really worried about it, just wait and see! Wink

Dear janders,

you said the discharge is thick, so i'm assuming it is sticky ? If you said you were having discharge from both nipple I would say not to worry, but the fact that it is only from one is a reason for you to at least get your doctor to look at you. If it is thick and sticky is another reason for you to get it checked. Thin and cloudy white can be considered normal but anything other than that should be checked. Please see your doctor, it will probably be fine, but it takes half an hour to have it checked, and you can then have peace of mind.

Thanks for your replies. Running test now. They think it may be infection. My doctor said she couldn't detect a lump either.

I came to this website in search of someone having the same thing as me, and here you are. Well I have this discharge from both, and it only comes out if I push it out, kind of like if you had a baby and nursing. It's a milky color. Actually, it comes from two different spots in the nipple. One spot is a clear fluid, the other is the milk like fluid. Im not pregnant, and havent had sex in 7 months, and am very thin. So it has to be something else. I have asked my mom and she is it was fine. But none of my friends can do this, befcause I have asked them. Smile
so, I hope someone has a real answer, because I dont have 15 bucks to waste at the doctors when its doing me no harm. I have had this since I was a teenager.

Dear aqua,

many women experience discharge from their nipples, and is usually normal. Unless you notice that the discharge is sticky, or contains traces of blood then there shouldn't be any reason to worry about it. Another reason for concern is if it is only coming from one nipple and not the other. Normal nipple discharge occurs a lot in very small children, teenagers, pregnant women and women going through menopause.

Regards,

suzy
