My doctor diagnosed me with anxiety about three months ago. I had chest pains for a few months on and off, but one day it got really bad and I went the hospital. I went to a cardiologist who looked at my heart and said it was fine. He said I had anxiety, which made me feel a little bit better (that I did not have a heart problem). I do not know anyone else with anxiety, so I don't know who to talk about it with, I thought maybe someone here could put my mind at ease. When it happens, my chest feels really tight and I am short of breath. I can feel my heart beating, which makes me freak out even more and makes me think that there is something wrong with my heart. I just need some reassurance, please let me know if you are or have ever been going through the same thing. Thank you!!

I've been going through the same thing. I just had a topic on here about it. Everyone including the doctor told me to excerise. So, maybe that will help. Just not during an attack. My chest stays tight for days sometimes, because I do the same thing with thinking it's my heart and scaring the
s!*% out of myself. Laughing I haven't found anything that totally helps me yet. Let me know if you do. Take care.

Hello--my husband has had problems with anxiety & panic attacks. Boy does he get wound up about things, and I don't mean in a tempermental way--ex. Making supper he'll end up doing circles looking for something- say a spoon, and he'll start to panic because the potatos might burn. And when he gets stressed out and has his anxiety attacks, he says he feels like his face is hot (like maybe he has a high fever), his chest becomes tight, he develops shortness of breath then his arms and lips become numb. He gets these attacks about everyother day (as now he's seen someone to learn ways to help himself) but he use to get them more freq. He'll sit down and put his head between his legs and do slow breathing, he also has a brown paper bag in his desk at work, he psych talks to himself, and is on medication--paxil. This med. Is in the antidepressant class, but is also highly used for social anxiety/panic disorder. Lots of people have this "little" problem. So if you ever see a man sitting on a bench at a mall with his head between his legs--it's probably my husband (ha!Ha!) your not alone!!
