about me:
i believe I was an undiagnosed person
until my mid twenties with an anxiety
problem. I have suffered from issues my
whole life dealing with most life
situations. I have finally come to a
point in my life where I have received
help for my problems. I’ve been under
treatment (medication) for 3 month now and
they (the doctors) believe I have
social anxiety disorder. It is a
little confronting knowing I am getting
help, but the I don’t believe the
medication is working well.
question#1:
i am on my second drug zoloft and I am
having nightmares almost every
night. My dreams have always been weird
and strange, but now they are weird and
strange with a sense of terror to them.
I think it might be the drug, because
never before have a had so many in a row.
I can go a whole week having them..
question#2:
i also feel as the medication starts to
make me feel better for the first one or
two weeks and then I slip into my old
patterns of depression and anxiety.
would anyone suggest switching
medication again? i feel as I am
slipping further away then getting closer
to a solution...
Thanks for reading

Anti Depressants Posted: 10-20-03 21:32pm
Yes jimmy, I would highly suggest trying a
different medication again. My husband
and I have suffered severe depression and
anxiety most of our lives and have tried
every anti depressant in the doctors
drawer. We feel like a walking drug
store. I have finally (at age 29) found
that ciprimil works very well for me, so I
am going to stick with it. I found that
aropax were horrible for me as they made
me sick for months when I first went on
them, and made me even sicker trying to
get off them. Yet in saying this aropax
might be perfect for you. Unfortunately
that is how antidepressants work, they are
trial and error until you find the perfect
medication that agrees with your body. If
you are having nightmares since you have
been on zoloft, definately get straight to
your doctor and have them change it for
you, you don't need to suffer like that.
I must say congratulations on asking for
help, you are one very gutsy guy, there
are so many men out there who are too
scared too ask for help because it will
make them look "weak". Unfortunately what
they don't realise is it is actualy their
weakness stopping them from asking for the
help, the male suicide rate is going
through the roof, both here in australia,
and in the u.S. There does need to be
more mental health clinics just for men,
there are plenty for women, but what about
our men ? Men suffer the same mental
issues as women, but unfortunately there
is just not enough help for them.
Although in saying that, the demand for it
is not there either, as men are so
hesitant to ask for the help. But, I
think it is up to the governments to make
the first move in opening some mens health
clinics, raising the awareness just the
same as they do with the women's ones by
advertising and media, then they might see
an influx of men screaming out for help.
Good luck jimmy,
suzy

Thanks for the advice and encouraging
words suzy. I think will speak
to my doctor and see what she suggests I
try next. I have heard people say it’s
a trial and error deal with the
medication. It just so strange being in
this position and not being totally in
control of your feelings.
I agree with you on the male stance for
help. Most guys wouldn't get help on
their own and there isn't awareness out
there for us (mainly because guys won’t
look or ask for help). I didn't know
about medication, or that I even had a
problem until it was suggested to me. I
can see a great deal of the population
suffering like I did and not really
understand what is going on.
Again thanks for the words, and I wish you
well.

Anxiety And Zoloft Posted: 10-24-03 17:43pm
I was concerned to read of your
predicament. As an anxiety sufferer, I
can relate. I never took medication. I
might add that I have been very lucky to
have a loving husband to talk to. I
believe communicating to someone about
your problem is crucial. I do understand
the need for medication and would not
suggest otherwise without knowledge of
someone's situation. But I cannot stress
enough how therapeutic talking can be. An
hour every week where it's you time. Time
for you to talk about you. It's really
beneficial. Make sure you have a
therapist who's a good listener. It is
essential. You have to get it out, not
supress it. Once again, I am not a doctor
and would not suggest discontinuing
medication. But my mother and brother
took medication for years and the're both
still nutty as. They never got it out and
talked about their issues. They just
gobbled up the medication. I'm the sanest
of the three and I never touched it.
Talk, talk, talk, talk. Talk everyone
crazy. Don't give a medical question what
anyone says! It's fabulous therapy. Good
luck!!!

Serra,
yes I agree that medication can't do it
alone. Talking is important. I don't
have a therapist, but my doctor is setting
up an appointment (in november). I talk
about it from time to time, but I mainly
try to avoid the subject and just stay in
my little bubble. I hardly leave the
house or answer the telephone. I have
slowly repressed from everyone and only
have selected relationships. I'll try
talking more and hopefully I get into a
therapist. I'm glad to hear that you
surpassed the problems that your family
can't conquer. Hopefully you can help
them through their situations. thanks for the
advice.
question?
does anyone know if anxiety is generic?
My half-sister has several anxiety
problems as well, and I suspect other
family members might too (although I 100%
don't know).

Woah...I know this is kinda an old post
but when I read this it made me just stop
and think...My son who is 9 starting
taking zoloft when he was 8 and when he
first started taking it he told me he was
having nightmares...Or really "weird"
dreams...Being 8 he couldnt really explain
himself all that well...But I never
thought it was related....He's still
taking it but I saw another post that
someone made saying it makes you gain
weight and he has gained alot of weight
since last year and I thought it was
because I wasnt giving him his concerta
during the summer and he was eating
better.
I wish I knew of something better to ask
for...He has tried remeron but that was
way to strong for him...Made him sleep all
day long.

I do believe talking is great also. I
havent seen a therapist in a while...But
am thinking about going again. Its the
greatest feeling to get everything out
once a week with somebody who is neutral.
I a 25yo male...And I think alot of guys
suffer from it but dont get help becasue
their too macho. I have a freind who
suffers from anxiety and its great. I
can tell him anything and he understands.
It does run in my famliy ( a direct
line). My grandmother has it bad...But
refuses to admit she has a problem. My
mom has it...But she semi denys it (shes
on atvin thought). Im not to proud to
get help. Have you ever looked at
natural remedies? Im really looking into
them cant help to try. Antidepressants
make me feel not myself....Sometimes I
think they do more harm to people. Dr's
seem to deny that they are harmful. Many
people seem to have more negative things
to say about them then positive. If you
ever want to chat though email me!

Zoloft Made Me Have Seizures And Now I Cant Stop. Posted: 01-17-04 00:56am
Dear everyone.
I was told I had
anxiety. I was put on zoloft 100mg daily
I was told I wold have needed 300 mgs to
feel better coz I wasnt getting better. It
made my head feel really strange I was
only on the drug 8 days and I had a
massive epileptic seizure. I was not
aware before but did you know that taking
antidepressants can lower your seizure
threshold. 2 months later I was diagnosed
as being an epileptic. I dont take the
zoloft anymore and in 1 way I am glad that
I had the drug because otherwise I could
have been driving somewhere and had a
seizure or something. Its scarey stuff.
I am always cautious now when taking
medications. Sometimes I feel that
doctors want to put you on a pill for
everything. Some of us dont need a pill
for everything thats all I am saying.
Prehaps if I never had zoloft I would
never have became an epileptic.
