Rolling Eyes having suffered from severe back pain for 4 years & tried every possible way to relieve pain I am finally going for the op in 2 wks. I honestly can't wait. I am a little apprehensive of course but decided to 'go for it' after a lot of thought.

Does anyone have any advice/experience that they wish to share?

Which are you having it done on? I had it done on l5/s1 and it didnt work so I am on to the next step. It has worked for many other people though. Mine may not have worked because I was up and about after about a week and you are supposed to be in bed for 3 to 4 weeks to allow for a full recovery. I didnt know that until too late though. I will be having disc replacement surgery on the 17th of december with the charite 3 artificial disc.

Details of Op!!
I'm also having l5/s1 done. My consultant says that he is to do a decompression & whatever else he finds when 'in there!'. The sciatica in my legs is getting worse by the week & he says that until he can see, he doesn't know what damage there is & exactly what he will do.

I am very positive about the op as I have heard mainly great results, providing a lot of rest is taken (will do my best!)

as the op is just before xmas I intend to eat, drink & be extremely restful!!

Are you in the same pain as before & if so what route are you taking next?

Actually my pain is worse and after a second discogram, (follow up from nucleoplasty) showing that the disc is actually no longer even a viable part of my back. I can hardly walk and it is impossible to sit/lay/stand or anything for any length of time. The procedure you are having has been proven to be successful many times! It just was not successful for me. I have read on many other forums that you should be immobile for 3 to 4 weeks after disc decompression and I was only immobile for 4 days and then I was up and trying to get better. I guess that was a bad move. Good luck with the procedure and I pray that it works for you! Smile
