you know pink ponies I never thought that the mirena was the cause of my moodyness I guess because I have many reason to be moody like chornic pain and all that stuff but and just noticed now that since I had that stupid thing out after having it about the same length of tiime and that was exactlly what happened to me first it was great loved it and then I hate it the spoting so much in the last while felt like I was always bleeding not much mind you but enough to always wear a panty liner. Since I stopped bleeding and they fixed that area of my body I feel wonderful and I am not moody I yell sometimes just to get heard. family of 5 three little ones and a husband lol

I never had to sign a waiver or go to the hospital and I had it inand out twice first time was not long enough to tell it was causing anything. I went to the office brought the mirena with me he put it in and then I went home and if cramping got bad take some advil or tylenol. Was it bad for you? It sounds like it was a scary thing to go through the way you had it put in. Was it? Just wondering

It really did hurt a lot to get put in for me, I don't know why. But the process wasn't really that bad, the doctor was really nice and had told me exactly what to expect. Oh, and I wasn't really in a hospital- just a women's health clinic (connected to a hospital). But they made me sign the forms anyway. They never gave me painkillers or anything, but told me to take some before I got it in and whenever it hurt. So I took painkillers quite often for about nine months. I have heard that some places will give you a local anesthetic though, but I wonder if the shot in your cervix would hurt more or less than the whole procedure? It sounds painful.

The only really bad thing was that I found out later that my insurance didn't cover it. So check twice if you decide on it!!!

Plus all the side effects, I guess. It sucked. Works well for lots of people though, planned parenthood claims that it is the most popular form of birth control worldwide.

I Hate Mirena!
Posted: 08-22-07 14:27pm

This thing is ruining my life. I've had it in just over three months and a month into it I started gaining weight, quickly. It's been two months since then and I've gained 13 pounds and just keep gaining. My abdomen is so distended, it looks like I'm 4 months pregnant, which I'm not b/c I've tested and tested. My skin's breaking out like crazy, I've got NO drive, and I feel like I'm losing my mind. Freakishly crabby or crying at the drop of a hat. I'm getting it out on Friday.

my dr. couldn't believe that these symptoms were resultant of the IUD b/c they're not documented side-effects but I can't understand then why else I'd gain this amount of weight in that short of a time frame.

I tell you though, it's great birth control. There's no chance of me getting pregnant when I'm so scary that my husband is afraid to come near me!!!

It sounds like this is not the birth control for you. If I were you I'd have it removed, since living like that isn't living at all!

Yeah, that's the plan. They want to do ultra-sounds and the whole bit to figure out why I'm reacting like this. Apparently my uterus is enlarged and that's cause for concern I guess.

Friday's the day. I think I'm going to throw a "My IUD is Out" party to celebrate!!!!!

This is pretty much what happened to me. I had gained 20 lbs when I got it out and was so happy to make it go away.

My doc didn't believe me either- she tested my thyroid and thought it was all sorts of other things. But everything came out negative. It was the IUD.

I Too, Am a Victim of Merina...
Posted: 12-17-07 22:06pm

I have had mine for 3 mths, look like i am 4 mths pregnant, uterus swollen? getting it removed tomorow. put on enough weight to go from a size 12 to a 14 in 3 mths.
I read the merina site, talked to my dr. and all the other smart things when you get medical treatment. I was lead to believe not to look online for medical advice, so I didnt search on the device for msg boards. If I did, I wouldn't have gotten it.
Lesson learned.
I know I will recover, it may take a few months, but at least I can get it out ASAP.

Do you have to be married to get one?
I was thinking of switching from the pill to that, but my friend said she couldnt get one because she wasnt married.

I had it, although it wasn't for me, I would recommend it.

You don't have to be married or have children to get it. Some doctors will still say this, but most have come around to letting anyone have it.

Just promise the doctor you won't have unprotected sex with many strangers! Smile Of course, it doesn't protect against STD's... and if you get STD's while you have it, I think it's riskier. So keep yourself protected.

used merina
Posted: 04-22-08 19:03pm

Just to let people know i used merina also. At first i loved it and kept it in for the whole five years. I had it taken out about four months ago, for three of those months i still did not have a peroid. Since then i have had three back to back. I started the third week in March and lasted for about eight days, stopped for five days and started back again for ten days, stopped for five then started back again. These periods are really bad, very heavy bleeding, with clots. While on the merina i did not have a period, but now i have them every five days. They are intolerable. I would not recomend this product. I now have facial hair and am overweight, if i knew more about merina before i got it i would not have used it

mirena feedback
Posted: 05-13-08 21:14pm

I had my mirena iud for almost two yrs. I had it put in when my 2nd child was about 6 wks old. It didn't hurt at all, just felt like a regular pap smear exam. (could have been because I had just had a baby.) I loved it. I did have my period every month though. My husband couldn't feel the strings during intercourse. Just had it removed last week and bleeding very heavy with lots of clots. But otherwise loved it!!!! Thanks...

i'm a Mirena user...for now
Posted: 05-15-08 09:46am

i have used Mirena for the past 4 years and i'm scheduled to have it removed next month. i had it put in after the birth of my second child.

it's hard for me to say, i can only speculate based on my experience with it. the problems i have noticed are not problems that are unfamiliar to me. i have had weight issues, occassional acne outbursts, and have suffered from varying degrees of depression and moodiness for years. but i will say this - in addition to weight problems, acne, mood swings, and libido issues, i have not had a period since about 6 months after i had Mirena inserted. in the last few years i have noticed more facial hair also. my weight has fluctuated a lot, but then i have always fluctuated so i don't know if i should blame Mirena's hormones or my own. my sex drive isn't so good but i have other issues surrounding that. i have been experiencing some hair thinning and graying as well in the last year or so and i'm only 27. but like i said, i don't know whether to attribute some of my observations to the Mirena or not.

all i know is something tells me i should get this thing out and get back on the pill or something. i don't think it's good for a woman's body to stop menstruation unnaturally and i think it might be why some women experience so many problems with Mirena and other BCs. i have been trying to find research on the side effects of the hormones in various pills and in the Mirena so i can find something that seems like it might work better for me. i won't know until i get the Mirena out so i guess i'll check back here then.

Hello.

I just got the Mirena put in almost a month ago, and I was just wondering if anyone would know an answer to my question.
Well the question is, why would it be kinda painful during sex? Confused

i'm currently on yaz and was thinking about switching to mirena, not bc I cant remember my pills..that isn't a problem at all, just bc I heard this was more effective in preventing pregnancy, maybe thats due to the fact that some people cant remember to take the pills which messes up the effectiveness and with this..well theres nothing to forget right...though, now reading lots of negative feedback about the mirena I think I'll just stick to my yaz, thanks for the input everyone

The only reason I can think of for sex to be painful would be that the strings were too long. This wouldn't hurt you though, mainly the partner would feel them.

I guess the other reason could be that the Mirena coil got dislodged or implanted wrong. I would see your doctor. I don't think it's normal for Mirena to cause pain during sex.

I feel ya!

The mirena hurt really bad when I got mine. It was almost worse than my contractions when I was in labor!
I bled for 7 months straight! Consider yourself lucky yours only lasted 2 1/2 weeks yes

If your husband can feel the strings, you can ask your doctor to shorten the strings. I had to have that done because my hubby could feel them too. He said they were poking him Laughing

I've been experiencing the cramps/bloat feeling ever since I got the mirena inserted and that was in October of 2006 (WOW! It didn't seem like that long ago!!!!)...
I have been very moody since I had this (I can't tell if it's because of the Mirena or if I'm just a moody person but I have been moody since I got pregnant in 2005....)
I have also had extreme difficulties trying to get my baby weight off. It seems like the weight was melting off before I got the Mirena, now it's just taking forever! It's all in my belly too. I have actually been considering getting it removed. My cramps are so much worse since I've had this.
You're not alone though!
