I am once again asking these questions on behalf of my boyfriend, who has lupus sle.
Does anyone know of a good webside or publication (book, brochure, etc..) that is informative about what to eat and not eat with lupus? I have obtained some low salt cookbooks and a cookbook called the renal gourmet for good tips on how to cook with kidney disease. I have not found anything specific for lupus. I know you are to stay away from sprouts and too much protein, salt and fat, but that is about all I have found! If anyone could help me out, that would be wonderful!
Also, anytime I look up suppliments that would be good to take for lupus, I always see dhea at the top of the list. When I asked the rheumy about it, he said he did not want him taking it, but did ok the omega 3 fish oils. Is anyone taking dhea and has is worked for them? I am trying to understand why it is supposed to be so good to take, and why the rheumy said not to. I would never have him taking anything that was not ok'd by the doctor.
Thanks again!!

Diets For Lupies
The best thing to do is talk to a nutritionist. Low-protein diet books are great, but I have found that they cater towards different groups of people (i.E. People with diabetes.)

i have a low-protein diet given to me by a nutritionist when I was in hospital back in 2002. I lost 15 lbs and it really helped me recognize what I was eating.

I stay away from processed foods as much as possible. This means no hotdogs, sausage, coldcuts, tv dinners...I do cheat once in a while but that's around once every three months or so.

Hope it helps.

Thanks!
Thanks for the info. Does a nutritionist or dietician know what kind of diet is appropriate for people with lupus? It sometimes seems that everywhere you turn, less and less people know what they are talking about and this disease seems to become even more mysterious!
