Q: What In the Hip?

Hello ehealthy people!

After much deliberation i've decided to make a post of me own. I've been reading some of your posts, that seem to be similar in many ways to my little "technical difficulty", but none exact. (such in any case is hard to find!)

anyways, here I am, eighteen years old, not overweight, otherwise healthy, previous broken bones include left wrist, left toe, right tib\fib (3-4 years ago).

I'm currently having some major difficulties with my right hip. It is an awful internal pain that starts (as I can imagine) right around the ball joint and radiates towards the knee. When I walk funny (rotating the straight leg either l\r ) there is a sharp "snap" followed by a numbness. My thought is that is snaps slightly out of place, thus, I stand on my left leg, holding a wall and bring my right leg up slowly so that my knee is near my chin. Another shotgun-audible "crack" can be heard (much to the displeasure of others)as the joint replaces itself, and I continue on my way, limping as necessary.

I convinced myself not to make a fuss, and it didn't hurt this badly for two years since it started...Suddenly I found myself unable to run well, and more recently, have started having difficulties with staircases. It had taken about three months for a doctor to see me...And i'm on the waiting list until january to get an mri.... I imagine that this is more than a muscle-cartilage problem, just from the sound and feel..

Anyone else experienced anything like this? (( I imagine that most people with these type of problems are in their eighties Sad ....))

i'd like to hear of any trials\tribulations\and otherwise "input" on such situations!

Thanks alot!

Well...I think i'm that much closer to getting it solved.

(i'm guessing that no one's ever heard of this jazz, huh?)

well! I went to see my doc after the results of my mri..Turns out that there is a tiny tear in my gleanoid labrum (the cartilage around the joint)..However: he feels as though it is a tendon moving in and out of the joint and wants to further read up on it himself.

In the mean time? Physio for me!

Cheers!

Active User, very eHealthy
Did the doctor perscribe any anti-inflamatoy meds for you along with tablets for pain control?

Physio can be a wonderful thing but when it comes to torn cartilage, you cannot repair that naturally and the more physical activity you so the worse you will make the pain.

While I agree you need to stay active, I also feel that maybe you should see another doctor for a second opinion due to this doctors inexperience with your physical ailment.

You cannot be too sure when it comes to your health and welfare! Orthopedic surgeons should be well versed in thier chosen field of practice and it does not sound like your doc knows too much about your problem. I would worry, but that is just me. :)

Thanx tama,

actually, my doc (much to my happiness) didn't prescribe anything.

He's also guessing that the pain i'm having isn't from the tear in the cartilage, but the tendon snapping in and out of the joint. A rather odd predicament.

Anyhow! In 3 mos, I see him again, so hopefully he'll have some news!

Thanks for the heads-up though!

Snapping Hip
Hi,

i have hip problems for several years, and also have what your hip is doing now. What was prescribed to me was physical thearpy to tighten those pelvic muscles. Since you havent had your mri yet, your not 100 % sure what it is at this point.

Best of luck
kim
