Question About Bacterial Vaginosis And How Its Contracted Posted: 11-20-04 13:34pm
I've had weird changes in my vaginal
discharge/cervical mucus (whichever it is)
for the past month. Before it was a thick
sticky consistency and was green-yellow -
basically looked and felt like snot.
But then it abruptly changed from that to
a very watery consistency and became a
cloudy white.
................
I've read about bacterial vaginosis, and
that it is mostly present in sexually
active women. Does anyone know why that's
true?
I am still a virgin, so i'm not sure how I
could have gotten "bv" if I truely have
it. Can women who are not sexually active
still get bacterial vaginosis?
Can watery white discharge be a sign of
something else, or is bacterial vaginosis
the one and only cuplrit?
...........

I think I would be more concerned with
your discharge before.Yellow-green is not
good in your secretions,regardless of
where they come from!Thin,white discharge
is normal.Believe me,if you had bv,you
would know it!!!You can get bv from your
vaginal environment being unbalanced.Such
as a long period of time on antibiotics
and being treated for a yeast infection. It
can be sexually transmitted, but is not
always the case.Patty

Bacterial vaginosis can be caused by a
wide variety of bacteria, most of which
are normally found in the body - often
intestinal flora.
Sometimes antiobiotics can cause an
imbalance in the vagina, treatment for a
yeast infection can cause a bounce-back
bacterial infection. Also, intestinal
problems like diarrhea can cause cross
contamination of the vagina. An allergy
to a new laundry detergent could have
caused an irritation that resulted in an
infection, there are all sorts of possible
causes.
The best course of action is to have it
treated right away and get a consistent
follow-up on it to make sure you've
knocked it out completely.
Good hygiene certainly helps, and it is
often transmitted sexually (you could have
a simple infection by an innocuous
bacteria, give it to your partner, get
treated and get it from him again) but
sometimes just a series of perfect
conditions can cause an infection. Don't
douche, as that can upset the balance.
Take care.

I was on antibiotics for 3 weeks for a
sinus condition, and I didn't bother
eating yogurt because I have had a yeast
infection since february, but it has faded
(still get the occasional itching
sensation), so I figured "why force yogurt
down my throat when I don't need to?"
my main concern was the abrupt change in
my discharge; I wasn't sure if it was from
birth control or from some other nonsense.
I'm usually pretty good about my hygiene,
and I do not douche, because I know doing
so can royally mess up the vagina's
delicate environment.
.................
But thanks, you guys, for the advice. I
appreciate it a lot. ^-^
