Q: Parents & Birth Control

I am old enough and mature enough to be having sex. My boyfriend and I have been dating for 2 years, and we are ready for a sexual relationship. My parents would totally freak if they knew that I was going to have sex. So I would just rather not tell them. I want to be safe if I am going to have sex because I am not stupid. And the thought of the condom breaking or slipping just scares me, so I would rather go on birth control. I can drive, and I have the money to pay for it on my own. So do I have to have parents' permission to abtain birth control? I really really appreciate all of your replies!!!!!

I'm very happy to see/hear that you're so willing to be responsible like this. You're a smart young lady.

............

But about your actual question...You do not need your parents' permission to go in birth control. Since you can drive, contact your local family planning clinic - if you are under 18, you can get anything and everything from there for free, be it birth control, condoms, or even an examination if you choose.

Or if you aren't sure if there is a family planning clinic near you, or you want to find out where the nearest one is, contact your local hospital, ask to be directed to the ob/gyn office, and ask one of the nurses where the nearest family planning clinic is.

.................

Good luck to you, dear. Be safe, and have fun! Laughing

No,you do not need to get parental permisssion to go on birth control.Don't be so sure that your parents would freak if they found out you are sexually active and on bcp's.I , myself would freak if I found out my stepson was active and not using some form of birth control!!!Your parents were once your age and they have been through the same things,if not more than you. They may not want to admit it,but, they were once young and horny, too!!To not expect your child to become a sexual person is not realistic-afterall,how did you come to be??Go get a gynecologist to examine you and get on birth control. You will still need to use condoms-just to be absolutely sure-no method alone is 100% effective!!Good luck to you.Patty

Thanx!!!!
Thanx for all of your replies! And I may consider telling my parents, but I do think that they would probably freak out. But I will think about it since you put in a way that I think they may understand. I really appreciate it everyone! :d

Be careful, hon. And even if ur on b/c pills, or patch, or shot.... Use a condomn too. There r a lot of diseases out there. And u can get some of them even with a condomn, but its better to be safe than sorry. Also remember the pill u must remember to take every day. If htis will be hard for u, try another method. Good luck
