Abnormal Chest X-ray & Ct Scan-very Scared-is It the Big Posted: 11-17-04 21:57pm
scared and nervous. Just thought this
would help me release some of the anxiety
and hopefully someone will have some
positive thoughts to pass on to me. I
was hospitalized on 09/27/04 for
"pneumonia". I was there through
10/02/04. I had been sick for about 6
weeks fighting severe cough, shortness of
breath, fatigue and tightness in my chest.
After numerous antibiotic treatments
that failed, I was hospitalized for
intensive iv antibiotic treatment,
breathing treatments, oxygen and
nourishment. My chest x-ray stated
abnormal density in the left suprahilar
region. The subsequent ct scan showed
multiple nodules, approx. 1/2 cm in size
in both lungs. They are seen in the
right upper lung and the left upper lung,
in the right middle lobe and in the right
lung base. Mild subsegmental atelectasis
is identified in both lung bases and there
are bilateral effusions present.
Atheromatous calcifications are seen in
the aortic arch. Out of the several
nodular densities in both lungs, 2 are
calcified, consistent statistically with
calcified granulomata. A three-month
follow-up is recommended to confirm
stability of the non-calcified nodular
densities, atelectasis and bilateral
effusions. The soonest appointment that
my primary physician was able to get with
a pulmonary doctor is january 6, 2005, she
had requested within 1 week but they were
fully booked. I have been told to try
and stay calm. She has done a pft and it
was not good so she has put me on a
nebulizer 4 times per day with inhalers in
between. I have been told that it is
possible that it could be cancer, but it
is also possible that it could be nothing.
I still have the cough, wheezing,
shortness of breath and now when I blow my
nose, there are streaks of blood.
But....I'm told to be calm. Any
feelings...Responses...Medical input,
would be greatly appreciated. I can't
sleep for the worry. If anyway can help
me, please...I would so appreciate
anything.
God bless,
nuttijo

Hi
i'm sorry no one has answered in all this
time!
First, i'd insist that further studies be
done now. A pet scan would go a long way
to determine if the nodules are possibly
cancer.
Pneumonia can produce strange things on a
lung ct, though. But, with the
possibility of 4 nodules, it's just
foolsih to wait.
