Q: 3 Periods One Month On Birth Control

Hello,
I recently started taking ortho tri cyclen lo towards the end of september (day 1 start). My period lasted for 4 days and was pretty light. 28 days later I started another period that was normal and lasted for 5 days. 2 weeks later I started a heavy period that lasted for 7 days and about another two weeks later (today) it looks like i'm going to start another period (cramps and light bleeding). I'm 22 years old and my periods have never been very regular, usually lasting only 3-4 days. I had a miscarriage in february and ever since then my periods have been alot heavier. I haven't missed taking any pills and was just wondering if anyone else on birth control has experienced the same type of situation or might know of an explanation? Thanks alot! :d -christina

Sounds like breakthrough bleeding to me... It's a side effect of birth control pills, so nothing really to be worried about, its just annoying! Wink
when my friend started ortho-lo she got her period on time the first month but bled constantly until her period the next month, so it's not totally uncommon. I think it might have something to do with the low dosage of hormones in it... You might need something with higher levels, but don't quote me on that... You can always check with your doctor too to make sure that's what it is.

I was warned that I may miss a period but not that I might have basically 3 in one month. :d I would guess that it is breakthrough bleeding too, but I didn't think it could last for days and be as heavy as a period. Thank you for your response and advice. :d
