I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian
syndrome about 4 months ago, placed on
birth control, and had blood tests done.
The results showed pituitary hormone
abnormality, for which I had an mri,
however this test came back normal. I
was also diagnosed with insulin resistance
and placed on glucophage, however was
unable to tolerate it due to extreme
nausea. I continued to bleed 7-10 days
each cycle, spaced 2-1/2 to 3 weeks apart
with clots measuring up to 4 cups in
volume each day. My initial blood work
showed normal hemoglobin with high red
blood cell counts, which could have been
the first symptom of anemia. Two weeks
ago, I became very short of breath and
went back to my gynecologist for more
blood work and a change of birth control
pill. My platelets were abnormally high
(500 with norm 150-300), my hemoglobin was
again normal, however this time my red
blood cells were abnormally small
(possible second symptom of anemia), and
my iron levels were 27 (norm 40-150). My
doctor immediately placed me on aspirin
and iron therapy and sent me home to
followup in 1 month. Today I went to the
emergency room after becoming extremely
light headed and short of breath after
passing a huge clot. I was told to go
home and followup with my gynecologist
next week. My question is: shouldn't
someone be checking the cause of the
bleeding rather than putting a bandaid on
it? I've never had an ultrasound or
scope performed. Thanks in advance.

I personally think you should insist on an
ultrasound scan and preferably a vaginal
one, as embarrassing as they are they get
a good look at your ovaries fallopian
tubes and uteres so anything untoward will
show up and if there isnt anything unusual
it will help to ease your mind, insist on
it , it will do no harm. Good luck

You are absolutely correct! You should get
another opinion,if your current doc is not
responsive to your condition. You need to
be your own advocate when it comes to your
healthcare.Good luck!Patty
