Is It Really Hard? Posted: 11-11-04 19:25pm
Okay i've heard a few different things...
I heard that it is hard to have a child
when you have type 2 diabetes. I've also
heard that its just as easy to have a
child. My husband and I have been trying
for 4 years and nothing has happened. I
need answers. If I ask my doctor she
tells me not to have one. I don't want
someone to tell me to or not to have one,
I want to know if i'm able too.

Yes you can get pregnant with type 2
diabetes. If you ask me you should get a
new md. During your pregnancy you may
need to take insulin to keep tight control
on your blood sugar. Also most ob/gyn's
do early 3-d ultrasounds if available in
your area to check heart development.
However, if you are having a hard time
getting pregnant I suggest you see a
endocrinologist. He will check your
thyriod. A lot of type 2 diabetics have
throid disorders and do not know it.
This can cause problems with getting
pregnant. Im a type 2 insulin dependant
diabetic and went to an endocrinologist
and learned all this.. Also my ob/gyn
specialized in reproductive endocrinology
during his residency. You need lots of
lab work from a specialist who can help
you. Hope this helps!! Good luck!!

I went and had my blood work done on nov.
19, I haven't heard anything back yet, so
I guess no news is good news. Also I go
to an endocrinologiest already, but it
seems to me, he doesn't really do much, he
checks my sugars, and if I need refills he
refills them for me. Besides that my doc
does most of it. I'm just waiting hoping
my a1c is lower, when I found out I had
diabetes it was 10.6 last time I had it
checked I was at 8.0. Also i'm already
on actos 15 mg, and metformin 500 mg twice
a day. Who knows I will just keep on
trying, hopefully one day I will have a
lil cookie cruncher.

Hello maybe I can be a little help, I do
not have sugar but I do have pcos and my
doctor has put me on the metformin because
it helps you ovulate and I take 500mg 3
times a day also you need to get a new
ob/gyn because there are things to help
you have a baby. I just started on my
fertility meds this month and also they
have came out with a 4d ultrasound I go to
a womens clinic and we have it, its very
new but it helps with keeping track better
after you get pregnant. And yes you can
get pregnant my step mom just had her
first baby after being married to my dad
for 16 yrs and she has sugar really bad
but her ob/gyn is great she started her on
the fertility meds and kept track of her
sugar and the baby came out fine, she is
health and the sweetest thing you have
ever seen so if I was you I would start
looking for a better doctor :d
good luck and if you have any questions
let me know
