Lung Capacity
Posted: 10-16-03 08:43am

My uncle had surgery to remove part of a lung. He has emphazima as well. Three years ago they measured his lung capacity at .98. This month he went for another checkup and they told him his lung capacity had measure .42. What causes the loss of lung capacity? Is there anyway to prevent loss of lung capacity? He stopped smoking three years ago when he had the surgery.

The loss of lung capacity is probably due to a surgical removal of a lung part as well as emphysema.

Emphysema is a chronic disease that can not be stopped by simply quitting smoking.

What was the lung surgery done for?
