Menopause At 19!! Please Help Me Posted: 11-10-04 13:46pm
I've been diagnosed with a kind of
premature ovarian failure, which is almost
like going through menopause, and i'm 19
years old. My doctor has put me on
estrogen and progestren in order to
produce a period, which I did last month
(and i'm very happy about that too!)
and now for the real reason i'm telling
all of this: I had sex this weekend
without a condom. I know first off that
was wrong to do, but even worse is i'm
very worried about what kind of effects my
hormone replacement therapy will have on
the chance of getting pregnant. What
exactly does estrogen do? If anyone out
there has any idea, please please please
let me know...

What sort of hormone replacement therapy
are you on exactly? Is it a birth control
pill (combo estrogen and progestin) or do
you take a separate patch for estrogen and
cream for progesterone?
If you've gone into ovarian failure, it's
unlikely that your ovaries are producing
the crucial follicle stimulating hormone,
which is what would indicate that you are
fertile. I am guessing that your doctor
has you on hormones to protect your
feminine characteristics and protect your
heart and bones.
Give your doctor's office a call and ask
specifically if your hrt will also keep
your fertile. If you can't get a hold of
your doctor, you might want to try the
pharmacy where you got your prescriptions
filled (pharmacists are a great source of
info on all sorts of topics like this).
