I Can't Believe This

I just got off the phone with my manager
and i'm so pissed because I wanted to know
about maternity benefit i'm already in my
seventh month and I had to let them know
because they have to find someone who will
take my place while my gone.
Anyways I ask about the maternity and i'm
going to have 8 weeks unpaid maternity
leave and because I get insurance and it
gets deducted off my pay I have to pay my
boss for thos 8 weeks for the insurance.
What is up with that I thought that was
ridiculous. I can't believe that. So I
don't know what the hell to do. How could
that happen.

Nope I did not misunderstand. I have to
pay insurance premium to my boss for 8
weeks.
The company does not offer maternity
leaveo I won't get anything.
My mom told me to look into unemployment
to see if they could pay me.
Yes I did do some research. I'm not
giving up to look for other alternative.
I don't want to pay him anything believe
me. This job sucks and so does the
benefits.

I have never heard of a company who pays
you on maternity leave. That sounds
normal to me. Yeah, it sucks, but at
least they will hold your job for you.
Of course, they have to because it is the
law otherwise most places wouldn't even
offer maternity leave. They would just
replace you while you were gone.
You may be able to get unemployment
though. I don't see why not. Then you
could use that to pay for your insurance.
It is really cool that you are being
offered the option to keep your insurance
and just pay for it out of pocket while
you are gone. They could have marked you
as not employed there currently and you
would have had to pay cobra rates which
are ridiculous.
It really does suck, but that is how it
usually is. I am sure some jobs may pay
you while on maternity leave, but I have
never heard of it.

Yeah, I don't know about the insurance
thing, but as far as maternity leave i've
also never heard of people getting paid
for that. I'm a teacher and we don't get
paid for that. We can take all of our
sick days and personal days, but that's
it.

How do you file for unemployment I never
did that before.
I know that some companies don't pay for
maternity leave but some actually do I
asked around and they do for some I guess
my job is one that does not.
It's okay i'll get over it I just need
some info about the unemployment???

the navy did for me lol with my first
two, I ahd to 8$ for each day on the
hospital is all (16$) and now I am a
dependent under my husband because he is
in the navy too, but yo have to work
untilt he day you go into labor and you
return to work 6 wks after your baby is
born as far as unemployment you should
be able to look up a # on the internet or
call social services, they will walk you
thru everything

Just find out where the employment office
is in your area and go there, they'll make
you fill out an application and make sure
you put your main reason is for maternity
purposes. But you have to wait until
after your baby is born to do this and
depending on what your state requires you
should be able to receive benefits for
like 6 or 8 months. I live in south
carolina and they are going to give me
benefits for 8 months after I have my baby
but ill probably only receive for like the
first 5 or so then I will return to work.

Although im only 6 weeks.. Im scared to
tell my boss as well.
She'll probably flip cuz I havent been at
my job for a long time.
But anyways the the maternity rules really
have to change in this country.. Its not
fair that nost do not get paid maternity
leave. How do they expect us to
survive??????
