I Stress Out Big Time When I'm Driving Can Anyone Help? :( Posted: 11-10-04 11:27am
In my previous car I was rear ended
approx. 6 times. Most of the time my
car was already at a complete stop. So I
do understand that they were not my fault.
But, now when my husband is driving I
absolutely stress thinking we're going to
get hit. I stare out the windows like
the oncoming traffic is out to get me. I
don't worry as much when its only myself
in the car. Then when I add my son and
husband to that, I start to stare
again... Mostly in the rearview
mirror..... Its getting to the point
where I hate to drive..... *sighs* i'm
afraid i'll never be able to go on a
vacation again, because I drive the hubby
insane over this. Any suggestions???
All are welcome and appreciated very very
much.

Ttlynn610 firstly don't worry so much
about the stressing thing, it is natural
and happens to a lot of ppl.
I have had way worse and ridiculous
stresses and issues which I have been
working on and coming out of
i will share with you what has helped me
-knowledge of stress, knowing that your
mind naturally comes up with
stress-paranoia as a defence mechanism
(obviously in this case we our alarms are
going of wayyy too early and
ridiculously)
-give time to yourself. Talk to yourself.
Go for an evening walk by yourself.
See nature, appreciate nature, appreciate
life.
Talk to yourself and find out why you feel
this anxiety when in a car. Try and
reason with yourself, yes it has been bad
luck that I got hit 6 times, but if
everybody else in the world drives their
cars relaxed and worry free so can i...Why
am I so unnecessarily worried.
Plus worrying so much while i'm driving is
only going to cause me an accident.
-think positive, be positive, value and
appreciate all the things you have. Ppl
have way worse problems, so surely you can
fight and get out of this.

Thank you for your opinion on this matter.
I do try to think positively and i'm
starting to actually laugh at myself....
I mean really I know that these incidents
weren't harming to myself or my
vehicle..... So in my mind I try to keep
telling myself that they weren't that
bad and that I need to be able to move
past this before I become one of the
drivers that hit me and cause an accident
myself. Its a bit funny to me that I
understand where this anxiety/fear comes
from and still can't get it out of my
mind although I do believe its silly to
worry about it..... You have to live life
not worry about the ways it could end.

Emdr(eye movement desensitization and
reprocessing) works great on something
like this too, any phobias and accidents
and you do not have to go to a
psychiatrist for this and get pumped full
of pills, if you go to the right
psychologist that does this, it only takes
about 2-3 sessions, it sort of reminds me
of a baloon that is being released, it is
soooo unique! The best to you!
Sincerely,
sandy
