Post Nasal Drip?
Posted: 11-10-04 08:32am

I have had a sinus infection and the post nasal drip in the back of my throat is very thick, also the area where the drip comes out is burning ( roof of my mouth) only farther back where the drip comes out and down the throat, has anyone experienced this? I can swallow and it is not burning in that part of my throat only on top.

It's probably burning from the irritation of the mucus going down your throat. I just had that same thing last month. Have you been taking anything for your infection? I think if it clears up your throat problem will clear up.

I just started amoxcillin 875 mg 2 times a day. For 3 weeks, if this does not help I have a script for augmentin which is very pricey, so I opted to try the amoxcillin first. The burning is only at the top of my throat,( where the nasal drip comes out) not where I swallow, did u have that too?

I've had that before.. Not this past time though. I wonder if some of the infection may have travelled down to the top of your throat.. Even if it did the antibiotics should clear it up as well. I would say if you are still having problems after you are finished with the meds then maybe ask your doctor about it.

I think they normally give me zithromax. I am allergic to penicillin (so they tell me). I think i've been on arithromycin (spell?) before. Usually the sinus infection would clear up in a week but the congestion can last for awhile. I'm still battling congestion right now from getting sick the beginning of october. Are you taking sudafed (or pseudophedrine)? If not I would recommend it.. It's a decongestant. My doctor just put me on it twice a day to try and clear it up. My throat thankfully hasn't been bothering me in the last 2 weeks though. For me it keeps going to my lungs right now.

Do you mean zithromax z pack? I am staeting the augmentin tonight, the burning in my upper throat is bad, I really hope this helps me if not I wil have to go to the ent. I have high blood pressure cannot take sudafed.

Yes.. The z pack.. I hope the augmentin works, I know how frustrating it can be. My advice would be to drink as much water as you can to thin out the mucus and help it from irritating your throat more. I always love hot tea for a sore throat. I live on it when I get a cold. I know what you mean about the sudafed. I can't take it several hours before I go to bed cause it messes up my bp as well and then I can't sleep.
