If you take an epi you wont feel anything. U'll be numb from the waist down and you gotta wait itll ur 5cm dialated so you'll be suffering from contractions for the meantime.

I never got an epi. The first time I got I think, demerol? And the second time I got nubane. Nubane was awesome. I was sleeping between my contractions (even though they were like a minute apart). Laughing as far as the how your labor will feel, I think it has a lot to do with your pain tolerence. For me the first time I felt the contractions all over my stomach. The second time the contractions started in my lower stomach, more like mestrual cramps, and would travel to my lower back. Everyone is different and every baby is different. You're going to do awesome!! Don't be afraid, our bodies were made for this! Laughing

It also depends on how you go into labor, my water broke, but my body would not have contractions on its own with both pregs, so they had to induce me both times with pitocin. It makes your contractions as intense in the beginning as they are in the end for someone without pitocin, and they don't stay at that level, they get so much worse. I tried to go w/o and I couldn;t, they don;t make you wait until 5 cm with that. I had an epi and with my second they had the pitocin cranked up baby, trying to avoid a c-sec, but my contractions wouldn't open my cervix, and they had it up there so that when it did start I had one continous contraction for like 20 min, every time it looked like it was going to go back down it would go back up even more, it was horrible and I could feel it through my epi, and they had that cranked up too because after I had the baby I couldn;t feel my legs for 7hrs, I am not exagerrating, I was scared that I was not going to feel them again, I swear!!! Sorry to scare you, but there is a horror story, but there are worse, there are better I had a friend who walked in got in the room and had her baby 5 min later, and she was tiny!
I just hope my 3rd isn;t a repeat of the first two, the part I hate the most is the 2 wks after having the baby is great, but I was hurting so bad!!! Embarassed

I was given pitocin the with my first delivery. It was very painful like mommax3 said, but it worked and I could push like an hour and a half later. When I started to ask for an epi it was too late- time to push!

The first one my labor was 18 hrs. With an hour and a half pushing. The second was 22 hrs., but I only pushed for like 10 min. What is a split sec.? It doesn't sound good. Nevermind, I just re-read your post and figured it out. Sorry, i'm a little slow. Lol what are your predictions for this delivery?

Ok i'm scared now for the labor part lol. Btw is it normal to have pains in your stomach, almost like menstural cramps, in your first trimester? It's not there all the time but I feel it every now and then.

Yes jaysgirl26. It is very normal. Probably your uterus stretching out making room for baby.

I had all mine natural. My first child the doctor wouldn't give me an epi, said were gonna teach her a lesson about kids having babies. Needless to say I have a new doctor, but after getting through that I never wanted one for the next two. It all depends on your pain tolerance.

My labor with my daughter was horrible. Even with an epi I still had pain severe. I was in larbor for 3 day sand pushed for 8 hrs and they fianlly rushed me to the or and took her that way. This time I have no choice I have to have him c-section because I don't have to ability to push.

Everyones experience is different. I was making halloween cookies and I started to feel really funny so I decided to go to the hospital when I got there I was already dilated 6.5 cm and I had no idea. So I got a room then I got and epi even though I wasn't in any pain but it was pre arranged so I figured why not? I got to the hospital at 8:00 watched the bachellor went to sleep at 10:30 woke up at 6:00 my water broke at 6:07 and I started pushing at 6:15 and my daugher was born at 6:37. Afterwards I thought hmm I could do that again :d I know this one is gonna be hell I can feel it coming. Everyone is different!! Goodluck!

Back to our post before eat ice chips. They are the best. As for the labor hun dont worry it will be okay of course you are scared and that is natural. But one thing I have learned the pain only last for a little bit. Think of the bundle of joy you will be holding after. I had and epi with 4 of my 5 children the first one was natural labor, and the 4th child was done by c-sec. So if you dont like pain then I recommend the epi.
