My 43 yr old physically fit, heavy smoker sister had tia. Who knows the cause and effect? Is there improvement with time? Why was she sent home then expected to attend several tests and appointments?

Confused

Tias
My father in law had what they called a tia recently....He has no memory of anything he did that morning...Everyone acted like his memory and disorentation was no big deal and wanted to send this 76 year old man home. He is never sick but was very weak and disoriented for several hours. We insisted they run tests before they sent him home. I have had Question several people tell me that their relatives had one of these light episodes and then had a larger stroke later.....I wish I could get more information on tias....Help...Anyone? Confused

27 With 2(tia's)
I am a 27 year old female who has been told that I have had 2 mild strokes(tia's). Every test I had has come back normal, from mri, to emg, to echocardiogram, blood work, everything, normal. They dont know what is cassing them. I was told that you can have several of these types of strokes and not even know it until you have the big one. My whole left side went numb two weeks ago, and now I have physical and occupational therapy, but they still dont know the cause. I am so confused and scared.

Re: For Slw 645
I'm a 45 year female but my problems started 4 years ago.To make this easier go to m.S. Site and read my posting which explains all the problems I had. In october I went to mayo clinic and had several brain tests done, ruled out m.S. Completely but finally had a test done which was called a tee-which is a camera down my esphogus so they could look at my heart which is where they found a hole in my heart. This is a birth defect but the older you get the more problems you could have from it. All the attacks I had were actually tia's and thankfully I never had a major stroke. I had surgery just 2 weeks ago and I feel very good now. Surgery is done thru a heart cath.Procedure, 1 night in the hospital. I'm not saying this is the answer but I know what its like to have all the symptoms and go to the hospital, go thru several tests and end up with no answers. I really thought I was going crazy, thinking maybe it was anxiety, maybe subconsiuously(sp) I was unhappy about something, actually I was just trying to make up an answer. One thing I can say is follow thru - don't stop until you get an answer - your body is telling you something.
Good luck

My mom started speaking less and less until she could not speak at all and started becoming weak till she could not walk alone. We took her to hospital where they did loads of tests but found nothing after a day or two in hospital she started talking again and slowly went back to running her life normally. The doctors suggested it might have been a mini stroke-it is now starting up again!! Has anyone heard of such symptoms before?? (she has diabetes 2)
(i dont know what tia is please explain?)
