Need Some Opinions Please. Lymph Node, sore Throat.. Posted: 11-07-04 18:02pm
I'll try to make this short for everyone.
Several weeks ago, I started getting a
sore throat. It came after a long night
of fishing with a friend of mine. I think
it may have been caused from the exposure
to wind for so long. Not to mention that
I tend to smoke more when I fish, as a
pass-time I guess..
The soreness was mild, and remained that
way for about 10 days, then I began having
cold symptoms.. Runny nose, conjestion,
some coughing. The following day the
symptoms got a little worse, and I was
feeling "yucky". The cold symptoms lasted
for about 2 days. I don't think there was
any fever, and if there was, it was mild.
The sore throat stayed for another week
after the other symptoms were gone, and
then it too faded away.
Approximately a week later, the sore
throat seemed to return, although not as
noticiable as the first time. Since then,
it seems to come and go from day to day.
My throat is a little bit red, and feels
dry, but there is almost no pain. I also
noticed that on one side of my tonsils I
have a hole, which i've had as far back as
I can remember. It seems there used to be
a hole on both sides, but now the other
side seems to be closed up. Also, about 2
weeks ago, I noticed a lymph node on the
left side of my neck, under the back side
of my jaw bone, that seems a little
swollen compared to the opposite side.
There is no pain or tenderness at all. It
seemed to appear over night. It's a
little larger than a red bean, and hasn't
changed in size. Other than the very mild
sore throat, which as I said, comes and
goes from one day to the next, there are
no other symptoms. The node feels firm,
and moves around when I push on it with my
fingers. I've searched and searched for
an answer for what may be the cause of
this, but everything I find has other
symptoms which I do not have.
I had problems with swollen lymph nodes
several years ago in my early teens.
After many examinations from different
doctors, I don't think I ever really got
an answer as to "why" they would swell.
I should mention that I have a slim neck,
so the enlarged node would probably go
un-noticed by most people.
Can anyone make any sense of this for me?
I'd appreciate any input! Thanks for
taking the time to read this.

Even though I haven't gotten any replies,
I thought I would update my current
symptom status..
I noticed late lastnight that I had a
small bump on the roof of my mouth on the
left side of my soft pallet. It feels
like half of a bb. It hurts a little bit
if I push on it with my finger. Today it
is smaller, so im guessing its going to go
away.
As far as my throat goes.. Lastnight it
felt like the sore throat was getting a
little worse. So I took another look down
my throat this morning with a flashlight,
and noticed I now have some tiny white
specs on both sides. The redness seems
worse too,as well as the irratation (dry
feeling). Surprisingly, the pain is still
some-what mild when I swallow. The pain I
have is mostly just "there" no matter what
i'm doing. I have been coughing a little,
and when I woke up this morning, I had
some conjestion, but it passed after about
an hour of being awake.
The thing I notice the most today though
that my tonsils feel like they are
starting to swell, and are starting to
effect my breathing a little. I can feel
the restriction mostly when I breathe
through my nose. It isn't bad (yet), but
I can basically feel the air passing by my
tonsils. I'm begining to think this might
be strep throat, however I don't see how I
could have strep throat without major pain
in the throat. ?
I'd really appreciate some input! If
things get worse by tommorow, I guess i'll
have to make a trip to the doctor.

Iam guessing it could be strep or
tonsillitis. Maybe you better go to doc
get some medicine. Everyone has different
pain levels, iam fighting sinus on my
second round of antibiotics if these dont
work there is one more to try and if that
doesnt work I think I have to go to an
ear,nose,throat doctor.
I assume you are still smoking? So do I
stupid to do especially when u have throat
or sinus problems doc told me it take s
take longer to clear up when you smoke. I
have been on amoxiciiin 875 mg twice a day
for 3 days no relief yet well if it doesnt
help I have a script for augmentin, I
chose the amoxicillin cause it is way
cheaper having no insurance does not help/
hope you feel better soon let me know
