Q: Post Appendicitis Surgery

I had a ton of swelling after my surgery. The 2nd day I was home from the surgery, my scrotom filled up with blood. It has now been 1 week since the surgery and my scrotom is roughly twice its normal size and all black from the blood. I also have 2 large bruises (about 3 inches in diameter) to the left on the incision where the appendix was severed.
Is this normal?
How long until I get my normal scrotum back?
The pain is much greater in my scrotum than the incisions.
Any way to speed up the recovery?
I went back to the surgeon the 3rd day to show him and all he could give me is that this was "not uncommon"- what the heck does than mean?
