Wow, I agree with everyone in saying I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Anyway, I've had this weird sweet smell to my urine for about 2 months now. It comes and goes though. I can't say exactly what it smells like, but it is kind of sweet smelling. Now that I see people saying popcorn and bacon I might be able to identify it as one of those. lol. I usually eat the same types of foods, and hardly ever drink soda or coffee. I do notice the smell is ALWAYS there after sex. I also started a new birth control a couple months ago. Other than that I take no other drugs or vitamins. And I'm definitely not pregnant.

You'd think that with so many people having this we'd already know what was wrong...

strong smelling urine
6 months ago I noticed a nasty smell about myself,,,it is not from my vagina and i do NOT have a yeast infection or bacterial infection. It is for sure my urine. I was on methadone (for pain) and have gotten off of it and no help there either. The one reply i found helpful was someone had IBS(IBD), I have IBD and Uclerative Colitis. I am goin to the urologist next week and will check in with yall..hopefully he will give me some answers that i can pass onto everyone.

Bad Bacon?
Interesting how many women have posted, I'm a male and get a bacon smell. Only happened after a UTI (Burning and blood) tried drinking nothing but water and nothing's changed, any idea how long before I'm back to normal?

Note - I don't drink, smoke (smoke free house) or take drugs medicinally or recreationally, no STDs either

Lots of suggestions ... I´ll try.
mine comes with the abdominal pain, hot rushes and dizziness...
I only seen one or two coments similar..
but hey..
only thing I know is that I was taking alergy pills "atarax" for about two years...stopped them.
and also i´ve been going to a specialist for 8 month - i´m as healthy as a new born on the inside...and believe me .. they got a lot of movies..from there.
same resault as other people , responses. nothing wrong. not liver, kidney, bladder, vagina...nothing.
thanx everybody that posted suggestions..more natural options. =)

Me too - sorry to say.
I just googled smelly pee - and found you ladies. Glad I'm not alone. I went to the doc. (however I don't have any health insurance) so, he wouldn't examine me, or run any tests. He just prescribed me the 1 day Yeast infection pill, told me I'd be fine, and charged me 90.00.
I have been having my pee smell like anything I ate for over a month. (Ate a snickers...and damn if it didn't smell yummy when I peed)Honestly!
I however have an additional problem. When I sit to pee, I get a sharp pain straight out my right side about 3 inches from my belly button. - and I can't pee until I close my eyes and focus on doing it. - then, as it flows, this pain shoots down from the starting point the whole way to my flow.
I took one of those At-home urine tests, and it was normal. So, I bought one of those At-home Gyn. stick tests for PH and it too was normal. Now, I have additional gyn issues going on as well - that I talked to the doc. about, (tears in my external folds of skin that won't heal) and about every 3 days a thick milky non-smelly discharge.
God! Help me - I am about to go crazy, and so is my husband.
I wish I could find a job with benefits again, so I could get some medical attention.
I called a (good health clinic) this morning, and based on my low income, I will qualify for a visit - but, they are backed up till next week. I welcome any suggestions till then, and will let you ladies know what they say next week.

Amonia smell
My pee smells like amonia mixed with some kind of chemical and I don't know what to make of it. If anyone knows what to do about this, please let me know. Oh yea, I don't do drugs, drink or smoke.

I too, have been having a problem with smelly urine. Quite odd, I thought to myself. I had just became sexually active with another girl too, so I was a bit worried. I did some research and found this:

It can be a little bit disconcerting, but, smelling an odd odor when you pee is probably nothing to be worried about. Certain foodsasparagus, most notoriouslyproduce a sulfur-containing amino acid. So when the food is broken down in the digestive system, those smelly substances are released, filtered through the kidney, and then make their way into the urine where they create an unpleasant scent. As soon as the food responsible has been fully digested and flushed from your system completely, the smell will vanish as well.

Hope it helps everyone as much as it helped me =]

Salty skin and bacon pee
Mine smells like bacon or diluted deisel fuel. Was on antibiotic but am off now--got yeast infection from the antibiotic and have been taking diflucan orally. Have burning in and on my vagina. Also--my whole body is salty--I can taste heavy salt on my lips and inside my mouth and I can touch my tongue to my arm and I am salty. Cannot find anything on the internet about the urine or the salty-ness. I am 45, normal weight, not a drug user, smoke 10 cig. a day but am in process of quitting, do not drink alcohol, eat a healthy diet.

weird smelling pee after eating asparagus
Thanks to some of your posts, talking to friends who claim asparagus is the problem and researching internet, I've come to the conclusion that it's the asparagus we ate last night. It started about 30 min after eating asparagus. My husband and daughter also had same smell after eating it. We thought it smelled like a sewer with chemicals in it....eeuwww! Scared me but I feel much better now. Thanks!

If you're not eating asparagus, garlic or onions which may also cause a smell, I would guess that it's some other food or drink but good luck to those of you who are still baffled.

popcorn pee
I just noticed today that my urine reeks of buttery popcorn. I haven't been feeling well for a while and just recently started checking my blood sugar. I am going to log it for a while and get tested for diabetes...again.

Isn't this a symptom of diabetes? It's gross and freaking me out.

Is that BBQ Sauce?
Mine started off like pee that had been sitting in the toilet too long, I also thought it was the toilets. Then it smelled like chicken, now I think it smells more like BBQ sauce. I too felt like I sounded crazy for saying so. I am concerned that there have been no real answers to this as of yet. The only thing I have seen that sounded like a solution also sounded confusing (take something acidic, or take something alkaline, unless its the wrong bacteria in which case it will only make it worse!) Now I'm not sure if I even want to take the apple cider vinegar or the Grapefruit Seed Extract tablets I just bought.

Common Problem
Wow this sounds like a common problem. My urine also has a strong smell. I don't know what's going on. I'm going to try fasting and hopefully that will cure this problem. It is so embarrassing!!! I don't even want to go to the doctor to pee in a cup in fear the tech will pass out Smile

Can i try to help ?
Hi,

i was reading this post and would like to ask a few questions. i'll introduce my self first - my name is Sivan and i've been studying and practicing chinese med for several years now. from this point of view i might try and at least suggest some new ideas to find out what is wrong. but i first need to know (i'll be glad if each one of you can aswer my questions - this way i'll have more data and statistics ,like in any medical field is important) :

1) what is your age ?
2) when did the smell issue start ?
3) have you been pregnant? have children ? when ?
4) what do you eat during the day ? breakfast ,lunch ,supper ?
5) how is your menstruation ? comes on a regular basis ? what is your period length ? PMS ? pain during or after ? maybe period is always late ? (i have many other questions and will ask each and everyone of you separately later)
6) other physical issues you can tell me about ?
7) mental issues ? divorce? problems at home ? a death of someone close to you ?

- as most of you probably not familiar with chinese med (i assume) these and many other questions ,can help provide a full picture of your body. maybe we can find a common issue you all have or maybe a few common reasons for your condition.

pls consider my questions very carefully and answer as detailed as you can. i'll gather the data and hopefully we can make something of this.

Thanks and good luck
Sivan

Smelly Urine and Halitosis
Dear silvian,
I have long periods which last about 7 days, usually wpianful. I have bad smelling urine which started about a year ago. Been to the doctor. Only thing they said was I had acetone in my urine. Don't know what to do. Oh I have to say that I do eat alot of onions though. Like half an onion a day. Could this be the reason why?
Also I seem to have halitosis too although I can't smell it, neither can the dentists but I have noticed that many people cover their noses when I speak. What can I do? I also noticed that I am always feeling cold.

OMG I also have the same problem & its an absolute relief to know that so many people are suffering from the same thing! Problem is that I've read through all the posts but not any clearer on what it could be! I'm in my late twenties, don't smoke or do drugs, have no children, definitely not pregnant, been to a reputable gyno a month ago & all tests came back normal.. Eat a rather balanced diet too although I don't train as much as I should! I'm slim though. Anyhow, bout the urine, well it smells rather strongly & resembles cooked ham/bacon so tht freaks me out! It comes & goes, usually re-appears just before my period!
