burst fracture of t11 & t12 Posted: 11-05-04 23:35pm
Okay first heres some back ground on me:
i'm a 21 female who was in a very severe
accident which resulted in several
injuries I fell off a 20ft razor back at
teh dunes which is just like a cliff. I
severed the main artery in my arm and the
muscle which caused great blood loss and
the injury that brings me here is I also
had a burst fracture of my t11 and t12
which they took out and replaced with a
carraige using spinal fusion. After two
weeks I was able to walk again. Okay at
first I started havin spells where my legs
would go numb and I would fall. Those
have since passed after a year but now
ihave leg spasms so severe at night I
can't keep my legs still and I cry from
the extreme pain. I have been on
morphine, oxycodone and now perocet,
fexeril and nortripline yet none of that
helps the legs spasms not even the muscle
relaxors. What can I do or who should I
see about it. The dr who did my back
surgery feels i'm no longer his patient.
Due to my isurence being state funded i'm
sure. And now i'm pregnat with my second
child. I have been told that this can
make my carriage unstable is that true? I
am still on percoet but can't or actually
haven't talked to my obgyn about taking a
muscle relaxor . Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
Thank you tara sorry this was so long

Talk to Obgyn Plz!!!! Posted: 11-07-04 03:26am
I have similar problems with my legs &
have a bad back for entirely different
reasons to you, my mother had the same but
no back problems - there can be many
causes, you must talk to your obgyn, any
meds can be serious for both you &
your baby so speak up now.
Have you tried rubbing your legs when the
spasms hit, using creams for sore muscles
(i know they're not sore but the cream may
still help), hot packs?? All worth a try,
my mum found that having a hot long
relaxing bath before bed seemed to help as
did keeping her legs warm, actually I seem
to recall that she used leg warmrs (sort
of woolen socks with no feet in them)
& that helped.

The meds i'm taking the obgyn put me on.
Ihave tried muscle rub works for a short
period but not long enough to get any
sleep I have tried hot baths and heating
pads which both provide only temp releif
and the heating pad own't work on the
entire area allowing me to get sleep. But
thank you for trying to help anyways. :d
